Pay or crack? I don't like either solution if there's free software that can do the same job.

I would agree with that,, except for the fact that allot of free software can be a pain in the ass. I'd prefer to pay for something that actually works

For a guy without money half the time, I have only one thing to spend- time. So I spend time on looking for free programs that get the job done. Seems LiquidIcon is great, doesn't need to be installed, and does a lot of the stuff Microangelo did, if not all (hasn't retried it from all those days ago)

If it works for you, then by all means go ahead :D
Honestly, I'd just use Photoshop, but sadly it does not do everything

Pasting into LiquidIcon works great, unlike PixeltoolBox which was EVIL and only allowed a 256 color palette of the kinds they offered... no custom palettes at all... and it used all processor and couldn't OPEN icons even... Grr. I can't beleive I had that thing installed as long as I did.

It can get captures... that's more than enough for me. And it can pack them into cursors, icon resources, and all that other cool stuff too. Although couldn't Jasc Animation Shop do that? (loads it) Yeah it can.

We need new icons? Do people actually launch ZDoom from anywhere other than the command line except for those with launchers which have icons anyway? :?

Zdooms built in iwad selector is a good enough launcher for most purposes. Drag pwad + select game = go.

Anyway the whole point is its there. If you walked into your kitchen and found someone had left chocolate muffins on the side, would you leave them there?

I've actually associated the .wad filetype with my Official version of Zdoom, and added context menu commands that allow me to simply right-click and open the file with XWE, DB, ZDoom, and Wintex. I can double-click most files and play them in .98, and I drag wads onto GZDoom and .96x. My .wad filetype has the flaming "Z" icon, and ZDoom still has it's marine icon.

8-)

I use the alpha version of ZDL3 and it lets me run any port with 1 click.

OK, so it's not that far yet but it's going to be awesome :)
