"Dedicated" Server

Post by guru »

As both me and my brother are behind a firewall at university we thought about setting up a "dedicated" ZDoom server at our home LAN's dsl server (linux) which can easily be configured to allow for connections on ZDoom's port (which one is it by the way?).

I understand the ZDoom client (even if running as server) is always a "player", too. Is it possible for it to just host a session or will it always spawn a player into the game world?

Also, chris?, is it possible to run linux zdoom without a running X session? My server is commandline only.

Thanks for any help!

Sorry, unless you give people access to your server to play ZDoom, you can't just open one and give them an IP address. :(

ZDoom isn't client/sever based so that throws any ideas of dedicated servers out the window.
