Ashes Afterglow TC - closing the vault
Re: Ashes Afterglow TC - V1.10 + Modpack 1/4 -weapons update
I just finished both games and I'm blown away. The gameplay and shooting are awesome, the setpieces are incredibly beautiful, atmospheric and memorable, absolutely love the soundtrack, awesome action, lore, horror, combat, storyline. This game has everything. I especially love the brutal and intense ending sequence, which ties up the plot in such an explosive way. I think Ashes is one of the most memorable games of all time and can't recommend it enough.

The TV Tropes page is coming along nicely, too. More editors have joined the effort, and details keep coming in. Soon it should have YMMV, Trivia and other such sub-pages.
EDIT: It should be noted that Haunts would make for an excellent start to the Nightmare Fuel page. I've been playing Ashes for years and those bastards STILL creep me the fuck out.

Heh some interesting thoughts that even I, one of the main writers did not even consider myself
Very tempted to spoil things but then Vostyok would want my head on a platter.

I think that this mod is unbelievable, rich and well done. I still don't understand why I took so long to try it.
Thank you for this masterpiece.
Thanks guys, glad you enjoyed it.michaels wrote:I just finished both games and I'm blown away. We've all read it. Are you one of the editors? If so, nice job.Plasmazippo wrote:The TV Tropes page is coming along nicely, too. More editors have joined the effort, and details keep coming in. Soon it should have YMMV, Trivia and other such sub-pages.

Thanks Joe, but this was more than anything a request for fact checking (within the constraints of chapters 1 and 2 and DMW, not asking for chapter 3 spoilers). I should've said that out clear from the start. My bad.
On another note, 2063 Legacy had specific sound effects for picking up keys and keycards. The sound files and SNDINFO definitions are still in the files for Afterglow, but there's no Inventory.PickupSound in the DECORATE lumps for any of the keys for calling upon the custom sounds, so they all use the standard "cloth rustle" sound effect. Was this an intentional change?

Oh yes, good point. I was wondering why I often wouldn't notice picking up a key. Obviously, the key pickup sound from 2063 should return.Plasmazippo wrote:On another note, 2063 Legacy had specific sound effects for picking up keys and keycards. I just want to say, Ashes: Afterglow is an extremely well done game, especially for running on such old software. The aesthetic, the atmosphere and the music, the level design, enemy design, the side quests... top notch. Game of the year 2021. Loved it. Really hope we'll get to see a sequel at some point. And if @vostyok decided to go commercial and sell it on Steam and GOG for money, I would definitely be willing to pay for it. Just saying.
One thing I found a bit confusing, though, is how armour works. Even with Metal Armour, health almost seems to go down faster than armour points. How much of incoming damage does armour take?

Re: Ashes Afterglow TC - V1.10 + Modpack 1/4 -weapons update
Same as in Doom: leather absorbs 1/3, metal absorbs half. You may be thinking health goes faster because of the sheer amount of armor scraps lying around.
Re: Ashes Afterglow TC - V1.10 + Modpack 1/4 -weapons update
All armors in Ashes absorb 40% of damage received. The only difference between leather and metal armors is the amount of armor points.Grey Rook wrote:One thing I found a bit confusing, though, is how armour works. Huh. Okay then. Good to know. Thank you.NovaRain wrote: All armors in Ashes absorb 40% of damage received. The only difference between leather and metal armors is the amount of armor points.

I do recall that the legendary armor actually gives you 50% protection if you either didn't have armor before or only got the leather one.
Mainly 'cause it's a reskinned megasphere.

The damage reduction, as expressed by armor.savepercent, is 40 for all armor types except the Legendary Armor, so that could be very well the case.ZikShadow wrote:I do recall that the legendary armor actually gives you 50% protection if you either didn't have armor before or only got the leather one.

But let's not forget the underarmor you can get after finishing one particular mission, and the leather jacket you can get after finishing another particular mission. They will give you further protection, and you won't lose them even if your armor points would be 0.

Ashes Afterglow TC - update news TBC
Short update: currently testing in progress for next set of updates:
Afterglow Sterilized: play episode two as if it were an old Build game with no quests, no talking, no hubs. Will play with Vanilla DOOM enemies and weapons, and should be compatible with most of the mods found on this forum.
Ashes Episode 1: lots of QOL and bug fixes.
Weapons pack: fixes to various sounds and a small balance improvement for killing Doom's tougher enemies.
Monsters only pack: kill mutants and raiders with your BFG or chaingun. Or hell, maybe mix and match with your own weapons pack. Aiming for mod compatibility.
Afterglow v1.1? (TBC) - time dependant. Heavily involved with another project at the moment, which some here may be aware of. But aiming to add some navigational aids, additional endings, a bunch of bug fixes, potentially a terrifying new encounter to find in the Atlanta subway
Should be here in the next day or so, depending on how broken the RCs are. And thank you for all the comments. I want to put a road map here of future plans soon.
