Need simple coop maps!

Post by darmuss »

I've been playing Doom for a long time, but just recently discovered how cool ZDoom is.
I'm looking for more coop maps like most of the maps in Scythe or the second half of Demonfear.

Mostly I play in LAN with friends who doesn't play computergames too often, but I guess we play Doom because of the nice mixture of first person end arcade gaming.

I just can't seem to find any good linear coop maps around.

There is too much puzzle in most of the available maps, which in singleplayer can be ok I guess, but not to my liking playing cooperate Doom.

It may sound lame, but I think that even Hell revealed and Alien vendetta are to much puzzle too be perfect coop material.
I like Deus Vult but it's unstable when playing coop.

I very much like alot of the newer wads like the community chest megawads just to mention a few because they are very nice looking with nice monstercounts. But they include too much puzzle for simple cooping.

Also I think the monster resource wad sound brillant. Is there a way to use this with the old maps replacing the monsters in a manageble way?

The weapon mods are an excellent option as well. My favorite being Xaser's Great Destroyer. Good variation, grapics and sound :plasma: :P
(out of curiosity I tried removing the monsters from this one, but failed miserably)

well, sorry for the ramblings, I sure hope someone knows some good coop maps.

edit: ups, wrong place. Maybe this should have been under general discussion.

Best thing to do is just look around for maps. Also, TVR!.wad is kind of a fun wad. And lets not forget Hell Revealed and Alien Vendetta.

Memento Mori 1 was specifically designed for co-op. MM2 should be good for it as well.

Thanks for the replies.

I still think there a allmost no good coop maps
Also because I mind about the graphics.
There is alot of old nobrain-maps with absolutely no puzzle, just monsters in ugly environments. That's no fun, because there are no suprises whatsoever.

Newer maps (and especially zdoom maps in general) which I really like in single player, because they offer great graphics, cool monster traps and scripting, contains to much puzzle for cooping ...where that red door or key, where is that button to push and so on...
Why this is ok in singleplayer, I don't know, but that's beside the point anyway.

Of course puzzles are not a problem if cooping players know the maps, but this means too much (for me) gametesting before playing coop.
A shame because it would be cool to see more mapping talents exclusively for coorperative playing. :whip: :)

I think single and coorperate games are so different, that they require maps suitet for each gaming style, and when mappers try to combine them the quality decreases for both.

oh yeah , about AV, if playing with "spawn where died and keep keys" AV is decent for cooping, but to my knowledge that's only possible in Skulltag.

I should give you Finalizer's weapon mod. The Unmaker is the unmaker of people :D I can't personally think of any good co-op maps and would be glad to get some, too.

Have you played Drown in Blood? It's totally wicked, no puzzle solving at all! Just try and push the button behind that wall of monsters

look for "dietest10.zip" on this site:

Hellish in the extreme, monster counts easily in the thousands, recommended for at least 12 players

I'm still working on an improved version of my Head Survival co-op map. The first version was pretty much the basics and admittingly got a little monotonous after awhile. The newer one is going to be more flexible in difficulty and have some new stuff, but it still going to be a little while since I've only been working on it in my spare time. I have some other more important projects going on right now. Well... that, and I asked my roommate to record some sounds for his head monster like a month ago, and he still hasn't gotten around to it.

I've been working on some pretty kill-and-die style coop maps for zdoom along my other project, whenever I get bored with my "primary" project. The co-op stuff will probably be finished first anyway.
