Did you try alwaysapplydmflags 1 in the console? ALSO, ALWAYS type it before you start a game. Otherwise, any item you take before you type the command will not be respawned.

I got this from the /newstuff Chronclices (#141) in DoomWorld. The reveiwer, Ulitimate Doomer, said that the mapper was fairly new to mapping. He visits DC. Let me ask him what's wrong with it..

I'm sorry, but the only way you acutally advance IS to get the BFG! You see, while it DOES setup a trap, (In that screen, there are two barons/hell knights behind me, I can't tell what they are because they're in stone) it also, from the map, seem to open up the exit, which I have to get the past ...
