You can always unbind all that and make yourself some crazy aliases based on rebind. :)

True, though often all the keys around the WASD controls are spoken for (sometimes for mods), eg, E = jump, R = reload, C = crouch, F = in-game/weapon toggle, like a flashlight, etc).

Ultimately, it doesn't matter. I won't lose sleep if you decide not to make it cycle-able. :P Just figured it'd be a nice option.

Right, I forgot about that toggle button. I guess it could be useful like that too, though sometimes I find cycling through the automaps to be faster than turning it on then finding the key to toggle (especially since the automap key is within reaching distance of the movement/WASD keys, unlike the toggle key P, where I have to move my hand and look at the keyboard).

Possible, certainly. But I found the toggle key in normal situations much more useful because it does not involve switching the automap off completely as part of the cycle.

In ZDoom, you can set it up so that you can cycle between no automap, overlay automap, and normal automap, where texturing depends solely on the Enable Textured Display setting. Would it be possible to make it so you can cycle to a textured automap as you could to an overlay automap (with the overlay automap never textured)? In other words, have the automap cycles:
  • Normal only
  • Overlay only
  • Textured only
  • Overlay -> Normal
  • Normal -> Textured
  • Overlay -> Normal -> Textured
Or perhaps something more flexible, where you can choose the automap type for each cycle step.
