The Beast 2010
Re: The Beast 2010
When it comes time to add things, I'll write GLDefs and things like that myself. Been looking forward to that thing for quite a while.

Re: The Beast 2010
Surprise! Last moment submission, 'cause that's the sort of guy I am.
Info:
Name: Heaven Guard
Difficulty: Medium
Connections: None
Summon: HeavenGuard
Melee: No
Distance: Semi-homing projectile
Type: Human
Added States: No
Credits:
Decorate: Xaser, Zero Prophet (projectile base)
GLDefs: Xaser
Sprites: Id Software (Doomguy), Raven Software (Corvus), LucasArts (Dark Forces snowtrooper)
Sprite Edit: Xaser
Sounds: Naughty Dog (Jak II), DreamForge Intertainment (War Wind II)
Idea Base: Neoworm's original "Heaven Guard" concept sprite.
Description:
These elite guards of the Deius Empire are charged with guarding the highest-ranking officials of the Royal Court of Angels on the distant system of Archon V. Their exact connection with Union Aerospace remains unknown, but the Angels' legendary military is not exactly the sort of force one would want to stir up by, say, accidentally opening a gateway in the middle of the Royal Palace. Whoops.
Heaven Guards pack an impressive line of weaponry, most notably their prized Plasmafrost Mk.II Energy Rifle, which fires a burst of supercooled nanoparticles capable of taking down entire skytanks. These particles' extreme sub-zero temperatures are maintained by a small cluster of nanobots in the center of the projectile, which also sport a micro-targeting system that modifies the projectile's trajectory toward the nearest flagged heat source (usually the poor sucker about to be blown to bits). This controlled release of energy results in an anomalous burst of light energy, forming the projectile's characteristic luminous blue ring shape that is feared throughout the galaxy. With both rapid-fire and extra-seeking charge shots at their disposal, the guns of the Heaven Guard are usually near the top of every marine's "things I really don't want pointing at my face" list.

Re: The Beast 2010
Time for mancu now to collect all the submissions, zip them and send them to the judges I guess

Re: The Beast 2010
Mancubus has been having computer issues and said he might not be able to judge. I'll collect them and send them to the other judges tomorrow when I'm between classes (I have a few assignments to get done today).Tormentor667 wrote:Time for mancu now to collect all the submissions, zip them and send them to the judges I guess

[The Beast 2010] Results
(sorry for opening another thread but mancubus is pretty busy atm with other things and I can't edit his original submission thread, feel free to merge the old one)

Okay now, thanks to all of the submissions we got in this years Realm667 contest, many of them have been very cool and interesting and the judges had a lot of fun testing all of them. But it's time for some results now I guess, so here they are:

Feel free to download them and use them wherever you want (do not use the link though as I will remove the graphics from this host in about 3-4 weeks.
Other than that, thanks again for participation and we'll meet again hopefully in a few months when the next contest is starting over at Realm667! By the way, expect the downloads this week, we didn't have the time yet to add all the new content to the Beastiary repository.
Cheers,
Dan

I also edited the first post for you.

Re: The Beast 2010
That "heaven guard" looks just like an imperial Stormtrooper! With slightly different helmet still, but the suit is similar enough.Xaser wrote:Surprise! Last moment submission, 'cause that's the sort of guy I am.

It's similar, but the chest plate is really different.printz wrote:That "heaven guard" looks just like an imperial Stormtrooper! With slightly different helmet still, but the suit is similar enough.Xaser wrote:Surprise! Last moment submission, 'cause that's the sort of guy I am.
Re: The Beast 2010
At first I really thought it's a Dark Forces sprite edit
(either of that or of one of the graphics resources floating in themes/starwars.

Re: The Beast 2010
It's edited from the Snowtrooper from The Darkest Hour -- I kinda made a guess about its origin, seeing how most Star Wars sprites originate from Dark Forces anyway, but upon further look, it doesn't seem like DF had any Snowtrooper enemies (unless they were unused sprites or something -- I can't say since I don't own the game). Hmm... well, I'm a bit baffled with this one.

Erm...
