I don't know but isn't every modder able to find his BEST tools for the job, if someone likes XWE its his opinion anyway (including me), if you are sure Slade 3 is better just advice people to use it??

Only difference, I had XWE for 6 months and slade for 3 weeks.
...and you haven't reported any of those crashes.

Either way, if you were using 3.0.0, try 3.0.1 (released recently), it fixed a lot of crash bugs.

SLADE 3 is way better than XWE in every way. I assume people still use XWE because they're used to it. But data wise, even SLumpED surpasses XWE by far, minus for the support for other games, something SLADE 3 has anyway.

SLADE3 does not support other games. It supports some formats from other games. So typically you can view resources but you can't convert stuff to the formats they use. It's a Doom editor, you cannot use it to mod Hexen II or Wolfenstein 3D or whatever else.

And while we're asking "Why do people still use XWE?", it'd probably be a good thing if somebody updated Realm667's Tutorials section, because that recommends usage of XWE.

While I use Slade for most of my editing, it still leaves a lot to be desired in the texture importing department.
Not from another pwad but from a file folder, where XWE is still without equal.

So yes, XWE is still needed.

Your question caused me to look again into this matter of importing images.

As it turns out, I had relied too much on Slade's file browser and the 'Entry --> Import' function. This time I opened a Windows Explorer window,

Image

highlighted all the images I wanted and simply dragged them across to Slade. Since those images were not PNGs, I highlighted all the imported images and used 'Convert Gfx To ...' and selected PNG 32 bit. Worked like a charm.

Therefore, I retract my former statement ' ...where XWE is still without equal. So yes, XWE is still needed..' and revise it to 'Use XWE if so desired.'

Even before drag'n'drop was added (it's new to 3.0.1), you could have used "Archive -> Import Files" to do a mass import.

Which I wasn't aware of, as I relied on the Entry --> Import. And that seems to be useless.

While http://slade-editor.wikia.com/wiki/How_ ... t_textures is quite helpful, it was not mentioned in there either.

I do find it strange that the option's buried in a menu instead of being on the toolbar like it was in SLumpEd. I use it much more often than doing a replace-import.

To answer the titular question, I like it. It does what I want it to do. I don't care that it hasn't been updated for "nearly half a decade". It did what I wanted half a decade ago and it still does it. I can't say that it has ever let me down. I'm sure that the alternatives are good too. I simply don't have a compelling reason to change. I really should get around to trying Slade properly. I'll probably end up using both XWE and Slade.
