[WIP] Space Coffin

Are you aiming this wad to be insanely difficult? The big weapons seem to look lke that and that Sentinel.

I want to have a mix of difficulty. I want to have chaotic epic Serious Sam style battles, with long spaces of creepiness in between. That's all I've thought of so far. I can't really sort it out until I have finished all the enemies and weapons. The Sentinels can kill you in a split second if you stop moving, so as long as you are moving they can't even hurt you.

Awesome, will there be headless kamakazi guys going 'AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGH!'?

Seriously though this is looking cool, although I'm still grumbling about only one rotation!

I've almost completed all the monsters on the front page and I've been doing some test fights using them all at once and it's turning out very well. Because each monster has unique attacks it turns out to be a real challenge to defeat them all. It feels very different from Doom.

It should be an awesome challenge. Will you make any more, or will the initial release just be these guys?

You know, if this wad works out, there could be a whole new genre of "artistic" maps and monsters, based on single rotation monsters in different environments. I'm assuming the monsters are animated when they fire and die, right?

They each have a walking animation, which I've tried to make unique for each one since they aren't actually walking with legs. They all kind of twitch or move around in strange ways as they move. And they each have an attack and death animation.

I personally feel that the one way rotations makes no difference at all. Maybe I'm just used to it since I've been testing it all out.

Have you still got the old version of the pervert? I think I may have had a use for him if he had legs... If that's okay with you that is :)

Edit: Btw I just looked at the hopping things video. I really think this art style could work.

Well, for simply monsters, such as my Aeon, or for static decorations no rotations is fine. It also works for Cutty's ghouls as they are in a similar class to the ones you're making, in that they don't really need the rotations due to the art style. I was thinking more along the lines of the highly artistic style of the graphics, and how a lack of rotations is a lot more practical for that sort of thing.

And I'm glad to hear about the animations - for a breif while I thought they might just be static images that do things with no indication and dissappear upon death.

let me be the first to say that the graphics are impressive but the level shots you posted are ugly as shit. take that as you will, again, the graphics look amazing, but the level design (from what I can see) has much to be desired.

They're tests for textures, not actual levels.

It would be hilarious if I put all this effort into making the enemies and weapons and other effects look good, then release it all with maps that look like those in the screen shots.

Unless anyone asks any questions or wants to sign up to help do some mapping, I'm going to disappear for a while here. Forums can start to be really distracting and I have to check that I'm not putting as much time into talking about things as I am doing.
