I always figured it was deliberate because he has to aim down to hit the player if they are both standing on the same height of floor.

I like the armor, chaingun doesn't fit that well though I was expecting an axe. But again I like the armor.

Looks good, only complaint is the gun looks different than everything else, so I'd recolor it, but I would keep the rest of it primarily the same.

The first frame cannon isn't aligned with the others..

Yep right before the first boss fight with the contra wall, it was heavily influenced by metal slug and contra (explosion sprites for example reminiscent of metal slug, or were they ripped?) and I think the theme "Streets" is a metal slug song originally.
