Go for it!

Sharp eye! The base I was using for that animation actually had one more frame, but using it and keeping it consistent with the other frames would've involved tearing away a huge chunk of the sprite's midsection, and at the time I wasn't sure I had the skill/patience to fill the area in (not to mention I had another 40 some-odd frames to go). However, since this critique means it's more noticeable than I was hoping it'd be, I decided to give the extra frame a shot, and here's what I came away with - -

Better?
Enjay wrote:Unfortunately I don't have anything near Globe's "one-three-three-seven skills" but here is an edit of the slimy zombie incorporating the kind of things that I was speaking about. I also transferred it to the Doom palette to make using translations with it easier but the blood (or whatever comes out of a slime zombie) could probably do with having its colour changed so that it can be translated separately to the rest of the sprite. I just sort of recycled the death frames to do the kind of thing I was talking about but they don't really look "melty" enough and the fourth death frame looks pretty bad. :?
It's a pretty good edit, actually. :thumb: Like Zero said, however, the zombie actually doesn't have eyes (at least it wasn't intended to look that way). Those two darker spots in the middle of its face were supposed to be nostrils and that crease towards the top of the head indicated where the eyes should be. The extra death animation is neat, and it was something I was considering doing, but ultimately I decided to just use the regular death frames, mostly to keep the homage to Splatter House in-tact. Unfortunately the blood was a drawback I was sort of expecting. Like Minnigunner mentioned, all of my stuff is done in DN3D's palette. I wanted to make the blood green for the red zombie, but I couldn't make it look right. It was usually too dark or too bright and I couldn't find a happy medium for it, so instead I just made it yellow, not completely certain of how Doom's palette would handle it.

Eh, the imp was the most practical base I could find for the concept, apart from maybe Roach. When I originally thought about doing it, I actually wanted to use Macil. Macil has that weird kinda' fetishy-looking expanding death, and that would've been PERFECT for recreating the chest-burster attacks that the Splatter House zombies had. However, doing something like that would've involved ungodly amounts of editing that I probably don't have the skill to pull off.

The eyes aren't towards the top of the head on a human-like skull. Near the top of a face, when it is framed by hair, maybe; but they're only about halfway up. They are lower than the middle of the head if the character has a lurching posture, keeping the face down and showing more of the cranium.

Would be perfect for a mod in what the PDA go getting close to the face and then the layout appears. Or something like that.

Looks alright, but it's a bit flat. As is it kind of looks like it's a piece of photo paper with a PDA printed on it. If it were used as just a HUD element or something, that'd work, but held in a hand I think you'd need a little more depth.

If nothing else that could be used as an in-between frame for the "recoil" animation.
