[Complete] The Ghoul's Forest 3

Projects that have specifically been abandoned or considered "dead" get moved here, so people will quit bumping them. If your project has wound up here and it should not be, contact a moderator to have it moved back to the land of the living.

Just delurking to say: Cutty, very impressive work here. Thanks for sharing it. One small point, however: the bow graphics doesn't seem to stretch all the way to the right when playing widescreen. Edit: And there is no viewbob on the bow, either? I can't get used to that!

Also, I'm not sure which is scarier: Ghoul's Forest 3, or the idea that LittleWhiteMouse would stop releasing her projects. :( (I LIKED Bittersweet, as it happens)

I think LWM not finishing her mods is the scariest thing ever. =(

LilWhiteMouse wrote:If you do this type of thing long enough, you have to accept the innevitable realization that anything outside the main stream interest, things typically classified as 'niche', are immediatly going to be criticized and complained about. Doesn't matter what amount of work went into it, what accomplishments were made, or what lengths the author(s) went to avoid being called trite, it will be looked down upon by perhaps the majority. You do one of two generalizations: give up and conform, or give them a british salute and do what you can to indirectly piss them off (Bittersweet). It's part of the reason I won't work in that industry anymore.

Point #2. Personally, I haven't made most of my projects public for over a year now. I've taken a middle ground, continuing my works, but I won't give fuel for those wanting to goad others into flame wars.

[EDIT] Returning to under my rock now.
So in short, you refuse to release anything because people aren't guarrantied to slobber drooling all over it as if it was the spawn of Jesus and KDiZD and Jesus was the pitcher. Thanks for thinking so highly of your audience, LWM! I know when I work on something, I consider my audience a flurrious mass of bitey teenagers with a book of one-liners as well, just because I think I'm so much better than them. Feel free to grow a skin that's thicker than wet paper and deal with criticism, and you'll be much happier for it.

Also, an industry? Making mods for a game as old as my sister is an industry??? And not, say, a hobby? I... there are no words.

Quite a few people aren't exactly known for being generous. There are quite many ***holes, bastards, dickheads and all the like scourging around, so even the most innocent of authors who WANTS constructive and such will inevitably face flames and such from said group, and will probably be saddened due to said comments. Ol' Cutman is an example of this right now.

Never said I wasn't releasing them.
Also, an industry?

Sorry to change the topic, but you're refering to Doom mods, right? Cause if you are, then who on earth, in this modern world, would pay someone (ANYONE, not specifically aiming at anyone here) to make a doom mod, when it's so incredibly easy to learn abou...

uhh...

I think a blood vessel just popped in my brain.

I think you've just proved Mouse's point.

It's thanks to this kind of attitude that we, for now at least, don't get the chance (and pleasure IMHO :) - Chosen was so much fun), to play new works by her.

As far as the mainstream remark goes, I see it as common taste. After all, main stream = popular interest, AFAIC. Every scene has their underground or "cult" status things/people, no? That doesn't degrade the quality/integrity of the person who does the work, much less of the actual work done, imo. That's why it's an acquired taste, not everyone enjoys it for whatever reason it may be. Everyone's entitled to their own opinion. But that shouldn't drive you down. There's other people that share the same vision as you or close enough, somewhere. :)

On the other hand, I don't blame you for being discouraged. Back to the "cult" status remark, that's what it's about, no? You may not get much recognition (not the one you'd expect usually anyway...) or praise, but you do at some point. That would keep me going. I personally enjoy LWM's creations as well as Cutman's. Very original, unique. I'm a fan. :D Keep up the good work.

Not specifically, no. Games development, you don't think these games are made out of the goodness of peoples hearts do you? But to comment, ever heard of Deathkings of the Dark Citadel for Hexen? And what about Heretic, it isn't much more then Doom with a few modifications.

Say that when you've made an mods from scratch like LMW has. Some people should hold back on the comments when they really have no personal experience to back it up.

EDIT: Please make GF 4, Cutty! :D

Hell, I lose motivation on an entire weapons replacement mod, much less an entire megawad.

ok i think people have mentioed this but the pictures of dead babies and shit, thats just fucked up, because they look real. And i think mabye replace them with just scary fake things, not real pictures of corpses, thats a lil fucked up.

I'm to chicken to play this lol, go ahead laugh. But it looks quite scary, do those pictures just pop up on screen? i hate those things.

Good work though :D
