This topic makes me sad. I love both ZDoom and GZDoom. I have faith that Randy will implement almost all of the .96x features. Why wouldn't he? They've already been coded, and proven themsleves stable and useful. DECORATE is, in my opinion, what makes ZDoom/GZDoom better than even things like JDoom. It gives us modding power those people still using DEHACKED cannot even begin to grasp. I hate to sound religious here, but I think we should calm down and have faith. I'm not saying we should follow blindly-moving WWE to GZDoom was a matter of insuring I'm not laboring for nothing as well as getting those cool new features. I think that, instead of destroying ourselves over when Randy will update or whatever, we should be wriiting unoffical documentation for .96x/GZDoom. I think that this total lack of understanding exactly what we can do is not helping our tempers any. (Heck, I didn't even know what +WIMPY_WEAPON did :) )

We need to see less of these threads. Ok, here we go, sarcasm storm #2.

Yes, of course we've had no progress. Randy didn't release the source code for perusal not so long ago did he? Randy hasn't been going through a majority of bugs and feature requests on a 'whenever he's on' basis saying 'fixed', 'done' or 'I'm doing it, but differently'?

Randy doesn't have a feature request forum either does he? Of course not, because he doesn't want to listen to us does he? The users of the source port? A large percentage of the users and contributers to the source port?

Oh yeah, of course, how could we forget that Randy isn't allowed a life? He's supposed to sit in front of his computer coding all day, not working for money to live, or just enjoying himself. Of course not.

This entire discussion is pointless! Why? Because an asshole made it. I'm not being mean-the author described himself like that.

To put it simply
Shall I be patient and hope for a change to the better or rather make my upcoming project GZDoom exclusive? From a personal standpoint I wouldn't mind but my fear is that since this is a new source port there might be some people who don't want to use it or are not able to due to technical issues.
Go on with whatever suits Your project (GZdoom, Jdoom, EDGE, SMMU, MBF, Boom, Eternity) and stop spreading Your speculations about Zdoom being dead. Your personal shit-keep to Yourself. Some people need to learn to keep their personal opinion to themselves. That and the "Defenders of One god" made me laugh.
No info on Zdoom? No releases? Randy ignores us! OMG! Zdoom's dead.

Sorry, but that's nonsense. Some people seem to actually think that a little bit of openness regarding ZDoom's development and 'having a life' are exclusive. Of course they are not. This thread never was about 'When will the next version be released?'. It was 'There is absolutely no progress information.' That is quite different.

@Deathsong12: I'd rather write some official docs - and I will start the moment I know that the stuff is in.

@Graf: I understand your reservations. It would suck to sit there and write a whole doc for something that will disappear in the next version. But I hate sitting on my hands like this! I have what is, IMO, an idea that could distinguish ZDoom from other ports in a big way, and I cannot do anything because I don't know what I can do. Even just a quick rundown of the properties, flags, and code pointers new in .96x would probbably get everyone working happily as opposed to fretting over new versions. I lack the skill to make such a thing, and so all I can do is ask someone more powerful than I. No pressure, just some thoughts

P.S: Isn't it weird how people we've never seen before appear to start and post upon threads like this?

He said ZDoom had stopped. He said theres no evidence of progress. He said randy ignores feature requests.

bollocks.

If you read through my last post in this thread (the one with so much sarcasm you can actually smell it) yu'll see evidence of Randy making progress and ZDoom being well and truly alive.

EDIT: Try looking through his posting history (Michi's). He's amde several claims that ZDoom's dead. He's tried to declare Rone dead. He's made a couple of references to Randy taking a while about updating and stuff. All of that in 20 posts. And all of them have had similar reactions too.

I think I'll be blunt here and mention that this isn't the first time he spreads bullshit about things not ever knowing how they are doing.

It's obvious this thread was a provocation most of people her felt for giving the asshole (not being mean here, he called him himself like that) a laughter and contention. I invite people on ignoring threads like this one next time.

Nobody, or at least very few people, seem to be saying they have a problem with what Randy is doing with Zdoom, or even how long it's taking. I certainly don't. What's more, if Randy is busy, then Randy is busy.

The biggest beef seems to be that there is no info about how it's going. A lot of people here have something in the pipeline. Their timeline depends on Randy's one. Without the info updates, it's very hard for people to budget their own time and plan their own progress. So that's why it would be nice to know how things are going.

Heh, I used the word "timeline" in a genuine context and not just a rebuff to a post. Kudos to me. :P

even if zdoom is "dead", legacy still won't be anything to worry about even if they make an update in 2015. 8)

Granted this isn't Randy's job, he doesn't get paid for it, or anything like that. It is his hobby. However, one can say that he is a bit slow in releasing 2.1.0. This does not mean that the world is ending, that we need to throw a fucking temper tantrum, or that we need to declare ZDoom dead. What we should do is be thankful when we get the new version and ask politely if we could possibly get the next version a bit sooner. End of story.

While we could use a minor progress update from him, how often he updates us is his buisness. Doesn't mean its right, but so long as he is the one coding it, hes the one who makes the update decisions. However slow and uninformative they may be.

@shaviro: Shut up thank you. So long as we use this port we have a right to voice our opinion about it and its features too. Also, do you know Randy's e-mail? I don't see him advertising it on these forums, or anywhere else for that matter. Until I do, I'm not sending him jack shit.
