GZD 2.1, can software look any better? (cannot run 2.1 OGL)
Re: GZD 2.1, can software look any better? (cannot run 2.1 O
It is also worth mentioning that the MAPINFO option is already an override anyway, so it's not as if the user option has any detrimental effects when it counts.

Great to hear that some of the gratuitous options might be dealt with.

At this point i was referring in completely remove this option from the menu forgetting what i said about only Dark and Soft being the only ones to be chosen.Graf Zahl wrote:No, if the user can set two of the available options, the others need to be accessible as well, it won't work any other way.
But well, if the last word goes to the definition in MAPINFO so it's ok, this is one thing that i didn't knew.
For that use the Brightness option (it doesn't explode image quality as Gamma Correction) instead of Ambient Light Level.Ozymandias81 wrote:Concerning my last reply, FYI I use above settings (such as all DynLites activated & AmbLev of 130) because my crappy monitor looks too much darken with my config (I use only default settings for my GPU, I don't need to touch anything from it because games like Skyrim or Far Cry goes reeeeeaaaallly wayy well on my PC with these).
I think features like these aren't so DEPRECATED, many people still uses them even if you had a modern PC with a crappy monitor (my issue).
Another example would be the Unloved wad, or my Gore project: try to play 'em with my defs on a crappy 15'' monitor and you'll get all the magic in the right place...

Thankx for your advices Rev, but I don't need to increase brightness, it's a matter of color depth: my monitor support only 65536 colors, but obviously my GPU makes million of 'em. On contrary, if I play often Doom with brightness increased, well, I can trash my monitor in a week.Revilution wrote: For that use the Brightness option (it doesn't explode image quality as Gamma Correction) instead of Ambient Light Level.

Erm dude, i am talking about the ingame Brightness Option not the button in your monitor to adjust the screen
The ingame Brightness is controlled by your GPU, not monitor.
And what Color Depth have with Brightness? Color Depth is related to Saturation, lol.

A sizable chunk of users are already making a lot of noise that GZDoom's new hardware renderer won't run on old hardware anymore... so I think it's a small price to pay for progress...Graf Zahl wrote: But you know how it is: Remove the options and the few people who actually use different settings will cry foul.

Actually, while you are already alienating users with one thing, why not do it with a few more? In for a penny, in for a pound.

I'm not so enthusiastic about this, when I think that zandronum, one day, will reach the moment the gzdoom 2.x branch has been created ... the 'chunk of users' could be more relevant than here ...Nash wrote:A sizable chunk of users are already making a lot of noise that GZDoom's new hardware renderer won't run on old hardware anymore... so I think it's a small price to pay for progress...

Just for reference, the code upgrade has been resumed (objective: zdoom 2.6.1 at least for zandronum 3.0), see here for the actual progress.

Yep, maybe I've expressed myself badly, but when I try to increase "Brightness Options" ingame I simply become angry with my monitor because MY GPU DOES ITS WORK BUT THE MONITOR STARTS TO FLICKER! I know that's bullshit, but try to do this with a monitor like mine at 60hz and you'll get the point.Revilution wrote:Erm dude, i am talking about the ingame Brightness Option not the button in your monitor to adjust the screen

Time to save some money and buy a new one, I'd say. The constant anger and frustration is certainly not worth it...

Hell, get an AMD HD5450, it's fanless, runs gzdoom and maybe something more, and it's the price of a banana.
...
I don't get this guys, I still remember my pentium 3 1GHz with an geforce FX5500 could run everything just fine...
Why do people stay stucked with a 15 years old primary computer? no money excuse, if no money, get a job or do something to get money.
Even this new intel atoms with integrated gpu can play gzdoom nowadays...
EDIT: why do people still use SCALEX4/HQ4X ? I cant use it, in a half hour gameplay this will eat all my 2gb vram '-', and if I'm playing with the onboard one I'll get a "out of memory" error very fast '-'
And no I'm not poor of ram.
2GB GDDR5 VRAM + 8GB DDR3

Enabling large address aware will fix the out of memory problem if you're using 64bit Windows.

I wonder why GZDoom enables texture filtering by default.
