Re: [SPRITES] Spriting Carnival!!
3D models can be very useful for detailed animations, but i can't help but think that there is a charm into turning physical real world models and turning into sprites. Just like the old days.

this looks great. Personally I think slim knight looks better.neoworm wrote:Quake model, modified texture, reduced frames, batch render in blender, batch shrinked and proportion fixed in photoshop. And it's pretty good base for new monster. I think this may actually work.

Re: [SPRITES] Spriting Carnival!!
Started working on this:

Left: Heaven Guard (base), Middle: Zero Legionnaire, Right: Zero Legionnaire Captain. The latter two are intended to be miniboss-level Chaingunner replacements for The Trooper, spawning in groups of three Legionnaires and one Captain. Unlike Fallen Legionnaires, Zero Legionnaires take full advantage of the Nishimura Seven's features, sniping from afar (with antimatter rounds if necessary) and increasing fire-rate as they close in and surround enemy targets. For now, the Heaven Guard's sprites are used (these enemies are functionally complete), but a unique sprite set is in the works. The Fallen Legionnaire will likely also face a similar redesign, albeit in all-black:

Note that these sprites are not entirely complete.

personally for hi-fi setting (unless its about comic-heroes), cloaks doesnt make sens. Especially as a command insignia. Recolor captain single shoulder pad and/or remove helm.
Heaven guard could have energy shields, this would help them protect anything they like to guard.
Fallen legionnaire are smart, they are less visible, unless they fight in white environment - then it make sens why they was excluded from legion

So, backstory time: The Nishimura Seven Battle Rifle is the standard-issue service rifle of the Infinity Legion, a cross-universal starfaring paramilitary force. Superficially resembling the T31 Light Rifle and its more well-known cousins, the M1 Garand and M14 Battle Rifle, the N7 fires both conventional bullets and specialized cartridges containing magnetically suspended antimatter, and has semi-auto, burst-fire, and full-auto fire settings. It is the production model of the Model 2431/"M0 Garand" prototype, itself basically a Space Garand with the same capabilities albeit with much less durability.
Technically speaking, "Fallen" refers to their being possessed and/or zombies (as in "Former Sergeant", "Possessed Marine", etc), not expulsion from the Infinity Legion. Originally, Infinity Legionnaires were mostly ordinary humans marginalized by the genetically-enhanced Tiberian "superhumans", with whom the Legion was primarily at war, and used even more advanced technology to compensate for the fact that their opponents were practically the equivalent of Super Saiyan Space Marines (it's worth noting that Tiberian society, while heavily centered around military service, was fairly egalitarian in most other respects). Eventually, the Legion began engineering a new type of soldier based off of a modified Tiberian genetic template. This first wave of new warriors were intended to be SEEN by the Tiberians - that their visage would soon be associated with imminent defeat. Designed to be either impervious or highly resistant to Tiberian weapons and physical strikes, they were basically juggernauts. However, defects in the genetic template drove the first of their number to unyielding rage against their own; their successors, created from a newer template subject to random genetic diversification, inherited much of their predecessor's equipment and combat prowess, and carried on what was basically a combination of shock and psychological warfare. After a ceasefire was established with the Tiberian Empire, Zero Legionnaires and their remaining predecessors switched to the same armor color scheme as the standard/normal-ass-human Legionnaires.
Basically, Fallen Legionnaires are the zombies of normal humans who volunteered themselves into the service of the Legion; Zero Legionnaires are second-generation genetically engineered soldiers with enhanced armor and shield protection designed to march unflinchingly at the enemy like fucking Terminators. I CAN describe their predecessors (the first generation of enhanced soldiers), but it gets somewhat crossovery and a weeeee bit cringey, so ask at your risk (a hint: Zero Legionnaires, like their single-genome precursors, use AT Fields in lieu of energy shields, to much greater effect).
I know the cloak is impractical, but I wanted an easy way to distinguish who the ranking member of the squadron was from afar - I'm going for "cool" over practical, given that this IS for a Doom mod (canonically, a Zero Legionnaire Captain would probably have more distinctive armor and a Perseus Proximity Control Weapon for fire support).
The Heaven Guard is there for reference and comparison, as I edited the other three sprites from the Heaven Guard sprite - it is otherwise not related to any of this nonsense, although I am using its sprites as a placeholder.
This link is to the most recent version of The Trooper I possess (0.3.2), though it still needs bugfixes and rebalancing for its new content. If you don't want to be hunted down by zombies in white armor, go for the stable version (0.3.1).
