Because it's a top mod. Simple like that.

And I think mods like AV, Darkening 2, Requiem, MM are the best. I don't like mods that uses too specific port features, so I'll never vote in RTC-3057, COD or Nimrod. Of course I'm missing some of the better works, but I can have my choices. My "Dream of a Doom mod" is simple: start, play, intermission. Just this. No blablabla scripts.

I like AV because it's insanely hard, and also has some really good-looking maps too. Could've done with more ammo towards the end, though. (100 revenants on lava with no heavy ammo is no laughing matter)

Well, I hate AV because it's insanely hard and because of the kind of monster traps this WAD is full of. That being said, I think that both HR WADs are utter crap for the same reason squared.

Personally I hate that in AV as well, but the beauty of the levels and their uniqueness makes it an unremarkable WAD.

I love the original Doom 2 levels. Haven't really played many wads, but I like what I've seen of Titan.

The first HR is pratty playable up to about map 15 or so. Perhaps a bit earlier. But AV is ridiculous, agreed. So is HR 2. But both AV and HR2 have such good maps. It's a shame to not even try with infinite ammo or something.

Not my style of gameplay. I played the first 5 maps of HR2 which are more 'normal' but frankly, this is such standard issue megawad design that I just skipped through the rest.

As for AV, I really don't get what is supposed to be that great about its levels. Yes, some look quite nice but again it's mostly the typical megawad mishmash (i.e. no coherent style) which doesn't do much more than bore me. I'd rather play smaller episodes with a consistent theme than those.

I prefer large megawads with a consistent style  But yeah, I'm really tired of seing the same 32 levels of base, city, hell over and over again. I prefer original productions, very original, thus I like RTC so much.
What I love about AV are those single levels that make it stand out (maps 06, 08, 09, 11, 32, 20, 22, 29)

Oh my God has Hell frozen over? I actually agree with Graf's last 3 posts like almost 100%! I HATE Alien Vandetta, and I'm not too fond of the Hell Revealed series either. Strange. :o

@Geedougg - There are tons of maps in the "Master Levels of Doom". They put 'em all on a CD and released them a few years back. Fortunatley, I have the CD, but I don't think they sell it anymore :P

I really have to disagree. AV is insanely hard, of course, but has great designed levels. HR 2 is insanely hard, and the levels aren't as great as AV, but the both are good wads for me. And about Eternal Doom? Of course one of the all-time top wads, but the error in it is that we take more time looking for the keys and switched than going further into action... what about make all the level in 10 minutes and 40 for looking for the final switch? IT SUCKS.

I'm suspect of saying this, but I like new world 2. The first levels look like Darkening 2, but the levels after map07 has a new feeling and I personally had never seen any wad like that: forests, castles and the temple map 15 with that open area.

Ah, I forgot to mention: I made a weapon pack just for the people that would love to play wads like AV, HR and HR2... I'll put that later in archiver.3dgamers.org. It's called "weap15".

I never had that problem. Yes, many levels are huge and take long to play (I regularly need 40 minutes to complete Darkdome on UV with 100% Kills, items and secrets) but I never had the feeling that it escalated into key-hunts.

Yes, it is a good WAD and I still haven't figured out why you initially released these good levels with those atrocious p0rn sprites... ;)

I will have to check that out. Maybe it helps in increasing the fun factor for those maps... ;)

At least Eternal was fun. I just reinstalled (redownloaded) Eternal and began playing, and to my surprise I found a level that I had been looking for for quite some time (since like 7 friggin' years ago) and now I found it again! It's Map 05 of Eternal (I'd forgotten it was in Eternal), at the very beginning of the map where there is a screen behind you and if you press/shoot it it changes to something else.... The overall feeling of that level was very techy and cool for me. I remember when I first played it seven (or so) years ago in Boom, and I was blown away! I loved it! It DID get annoying at times (a lot of times actually) but I just went back to playing it (this time in ZDoomGL) and it feels quite different (maybe it's also because I'm playing it with DuduCrazy's Guns Add-On and Xaser's WarZone Weapons Add-On! :P ) and man is it fun! :D

This one is very simple but surprisingly fun to play, requires Zdoom of course.

ftp://3darchives.in-span.net/pub/idgame ... org01a.zip

Another Zdoom wad that kicks an obscene amount of ass is called Enjay's Marine Assault, it has almost everything, it makes you feel you're playing Half Life on the build engine, but I suppose it was already suggested somewhere in the thread.
