CodeImp prefers VB6 (which is what Doombuilder is written in I believe) and I like VB.NET which is what DeCorEd is made in. It would be possible to port one of the two into the other one, but than one of us (CodeImp or me) wouldn't feel as comfortable programming. Also, if someone wanted DB but not DeCorEd or vice versa, they would have to download both. Also, releases would be restricted by the other program. However the only thing I could see being done plausibly with DB is having a menu with custom shortcuts to Doom programs, and then you could click links to WhackEd, DeCorEd, Wintex, XWE, or any other Doom program you placed in the menu. Of course, CodeImp has never said he would do anything like this, I'm just saying thats the closest I could see him coming to doing it

That would be nice, too, although I'd rather see a tighter integration myself. DB already has support for ACS, too, for example, so I don't really see why CodeImp would be opposed to having a DECORATE editor (once it's matured)...
As for having to download both, I don't think that really matters much. Many people have broadband connections these days, DB wouldn't grow much really, and I can't quite imagine that there are all too many people who'd download a DECORATE editor but *not* a general editor, either.
Maybe I should look into VB myself. ^_~

You can be really cruel sometimes you know.arcticwolf wrote:As for having to download both, I don't think that really matters much. Many people have broadband connections these days...
Yes, but there are the people who already have a different "general editor" and have no particular desire to change to DB. So, I'd happily download a DECORATE editor but not a "general editor".I can't quite imagine that there are all too many people who'd download a DECORATE editor but *not* a general editor, either.

I'm not really being cruel - it's just the truth. I originally wrote "most people" instead of "many people", but then realized that that's now true yet.Enjay wrote:You can be really cruel sometimes you know. :sadno:arcticwolf wrote:As for having to download both, I don't think that really matters much. Anyhow, there are other editors? ;) OK, admittedly, there's Zeth, but outside of that, I can't think of anything (unless you mean randomlag's piece of shit ;) ). Seriously, though, having an integrated DECORATE editor in DB wouldn't mean that the standalone version would have to be discontinued...

Yeah, I know. It's just that people are used to seeing my "I can't get broadband even though I want it and have the money for it" rants.arcticwolf wrote:I'm not really being cruel - it's just the truth. Also true. I was just being the Devil's avocado there.Seriously, though, having an integrated DECORATE editor in DB wouldn't mean that the standalone version would have to be discontinued...

No problem. ^.^ Why can't you get broadband, though?Enjay wrote:Yeah, I know. A sad tale...arcticwolf wrote:No problem. ^.^ Why can't you get broadband, though?
It's because the only telephone exchange which serves my village has not been upgraded to supply broadband and it is not even scheduled for upgrading. Even if it was, I live 7 miles from it and the maximum distance for a broadband cable is something like 4 miles. So, unless they build a new exchange (not going to happen) or an alternative technology is made available I will not be able to get broadband.
I have considered satelite, but the options are very expensive and more importantly, do not really provide what I want. All the suppliers in my area only provide asymetric satelite broadband (upload at modem speeds, download at broadband speeds) and the lag on satelite connections apparently makes it unsuitable for things like online gaming anyway.
Because the 'phone line to my house is so long, I get all sorts of interference in the line from, well anything really - car ignitions, electric fences, etc - so even the quality of regular calls is affected. This poor quality is also reflected in the slow connection speeds I get with my modem which are usually considerably slower than most people would expect with a modem.
Bah!

Enjay: I've herd of an experimental internet service called BPL (stands for Broadband Power Line) which actually runs through the power lines. However, there have been some major problems when developing it (mainly with radio interference), so it might not be ready any time soon. I just hope ot does become available. 56k sucks!

BPL actually works quite well (there are technical difficulties that need to be dealt with, of course, but it's matured enough to be just as usable as DSL and stuff), but it isn't nearly as available as DSL, cable and so on, so you (Enjay) probably won't be able to use it. Might still be worth looking into, though.
