I loved the game when I was a kid, and I still think it's level layouts are super inspired, especially for 96 standards...but part of me just wants to run through it with a shotgun for a change.
Well, I totally forgot to upload it, anyways:
A retexture of E2M1, although it's just the first area.
I saw the "NERF" guns my little brother and his friends have and I must say they are pretty awesome.
I thought they all would give great gun sprites for "energy cell" based guns...
There´s also one that caught my eye:
A machine gun that can be split into its parts. Depending on how you combine the parts, you´d get a pistol, a shotgun, a P-90 Style machine pistol and a machine gun...
I think this would come out very awesome... reload sprites would also be possible

I've got in my mind an idea of a dark and gloomy city, some kind of sci-fi version of an italian medieval city, with narrow-street, very tall building with very few windows, terrible smells, and dirt in general. But I'm disable in mapping, so every time I start, I stop after a few secs.. So today, while I was relaxing I drew this. A very stylised version of my idea. I'll drop it here, with the hope of being of inspiration to someone more talented.
A wad in witch you are a superspy of some sort.
Similarly to Twilight Warrior, each map is it's own scenario with a different objective, rather than a whole story. These scenarios could be selected.
You start off with fists and a pistol, sometimes with a silencer. You carry one other weapon plus a "special" weapon that could be related to the objective.
You're fast, and start with a Kevlar vest.
However, the vest only protects you from so many shots, and also only protects the chest and stomach. You can get a new one on the map.
You can climb ladders, use ziplines, or hang off of bars. Whenever you do that, you can only attack by aiming off with your pistol, rendering you immobile while you do it. You would also be unable to reload.
Bullets would be very fast projectiles, so you could run and dodge.
The player would be able to do rolls, crawl, and assassinate enemies quietly from behind.
The maps would have no route at all, and no sign of where you need to go. Instead, you find it yourself, using one of many, many paths in each area.
Some mission ideas include a hostage crisis, objective detonation, intel destruction or collection, or search-and-destroy or assassination missions.
Map ideas include bases, cities, trains, bunkers, and some road parts where you are in a car shooting at other people in or out of cars.
Lastly, a resource pack would be released for people to create their own scenarios, provided the mod got that popular.
What's keeping me from doing this? The usual, lack of mapping and spriting skills. (And my ideas would need a good mapper, and some scenarios would require new sprites, and a lot of them too)
I had an idea of a wad where you play as a small aerial fighter that must clear out a series of mining operations across the solar system. The mines themselves would be full of flying demons and each map you must destroy the core of each mine to ensure that the infestation doesn't spread to other mines.
The catch to destroying the core is like 40 seconds after its destroyed you must find the map exit or else you will die.
The maps would be more or less 3D to make full use of the fact that the player is flying.
I made a little test wad that features 3 weapons that you can switch between and use. The hud sprite changes to the weapon your using, although you never actually see the weapon other than it on a computer panel on your ship.
Here is a screenshot.
Spoiler:
If anyone would like to test out the wad, then pm me.
This is mainly just a small test wad I made to see if some of the features could work out. I'm not sure as of yet if I will actually develop this any further.
I'd love to see a strife mod that uses a weapon system similar to ROTT.
Another thing that would be neat, is a class mod that instead of picking random from the class menu and it picking a class off the list, the random class would instead get random atributes/weapons from the other classes. (using samsara as an example) You could spawn with Chexter's body, duke's voice, parias's hammer in your slot 1, the chainsaw as your melee, and when you picked up a slot 2 weapon, it wouldn't necessarily be the slot 2 from another class, but would be a random weapon entirely, but once you picked up a slot 2 weapon (or any slot), the same weapon would be in that slot every time. You could play a game where every weapon was a small zorcher, or you could get a mix of weapons, or every weapon you picked up would be a BFG-tier weapon. It would all deppend on how the great god RNG was feeling that play-through.
I would like to voice a mod idea that has been lurking within my thoughts for over a year now. This is a plea to modders, fans of Hexen, and fans of fantasy RPGs, with the hopes that it may pique your interest and, through your talent, become a reality.
Serpent Resurrection: Wrathful Edition!
Now, allow me to clarify: This is not so much a wholly new modification as it is a compatibility patch for two of the best mods ever created for the game Hexen. One of these being Serpent Resurrection, by TheUltimateDoomer and his crew; the other being Wrath of Cronos, by Thetis and his team.
About the mods (Spoilered to avoid clutter, and possible spoilers too)
In case you haven't played these two mods alone, I highly recommend you do so. They're both excellent staples of what can be accomplished with the GZDoom engine, and both are lots of fun to play through in their own way, plus a boon for any fantasy fans.
Created by Thetis, Wrath of Cronos is one of the best gameplay mods created for Hexen, and for any Doom game. Based on, and improving Serpent Resurrection's RPG system, Wrath of Cronos brings back the feel of empowerment and growth from RPGs such as Diablo.
Every character class is completely unique and wildly different from another. Each class has its own set of skills related to his abilities. The Mage wields arcane magicks and devastating spells to wreak havoc; the Cleric can heal and shield himself from damage, and invoke holy might to smite his foes; the Fighter can rush into the heart of battle and pummel everything to a pulp, soaking damage like a sponge; the Hunter is a master of traps, stealth and skillful shots, and the Necromancer can decimate his enemies with his undead pets and powerful curses.
As you level up, you feel progressively more powerful, as your stats increase and your skills become more powerful. Monsters grow with you as well, but even then, they are barely a match for a Meteor strike or a well placed hammer to the head. Strategy is still necessary, however: If you go into a room, spells blazing, you'll die. Become overwhelmed by enemies and you die. Things can kill you almost as easily as you can kill them, if you let them do so, making for a hectic, frantic and fast-paced killfest.
The problem: Lack of maps. As simple as that, many fans of the Doom games are turned away by the comparatively stale environments of Hexen. Even though map packs have been released, such as Scourge of Viserus, or Tower of Chaos, they do not make use of the full potential of Wrath of Cronos' RPG system; either they are too short (only one hub long) or do not possess any secret area markers. And while the mod has been made compatible for Strife, Doom and Heretic, even the best maps for these games fail to capture the eerie, gothic charm Hexen has.
Why should this be done
If you know about both Serpent Resurrection and Wrath of Cronos, fantastic! If not, please do read the description above.
Spoiler:
With that out of the way, I hope you can see why making both these mods work together would make for an incredible experience. The intricate and exciting maps of Serpent Resurrection offer plenty in the ways of challenge, puzzle solving and item hunting. Its architecture make for excellent fantasy landscapes and interesting places to explore, and its tight corridors, large open fields, caves etc. are the perfect setting for lots of awesome spellcasting. Wrath of Cronos' fast paced gameplay, its feeling of empowerment as you level up, the joy of finding an artifact to make you stronger, and the excitement of seeing your character grow stronger with every level make for incredible RPG gameplay, offering a ton of possibilities to make your character unique.
Combine excellent map design, with terrific gameplay, and you get what could possibly be one of the most entertaining mods ever.
The assets are done, the monsters are done, the coding is done. What is left, is to make these mods work together. What I am suggesting, is not a full merge of both games' features (more on that later, though) but a patch that overrides the RPG and weapons system in Serpent Resurrection and allows Wrath of Cronos to take precedence for leveling, monsters, spells and whatnot. Of course, such a patch would effectively negate certain elements of Serpent Resurrection, namely its spells and certain items, but from a gameplay perspective, it may be worth it. Unless a full merging is done.
A full merge would entail further coding, and possibly even some map editing. This would imply, as I envision it, implementing Serpent Resurrection's red and yellow mana into Wrath of Cronos so it used those types of ammo for its extra weapons. The spells from Serpent Resurrection could be used as really powerful spells (as they actually are) made to drain a large amount of Magick from WoC's system. 5 maps would have to be edited, the ones that have shops, to add one extra shop: An artifact shop; instead of having artifacts from Wrath of Cronos dropping randomly from boss monsters, let them be purchased with gold from Serpent Resurrection, that'd give further incentives for picking up and saving up the stuff, plus it'd allow players to play ahead. About the weapons, another addition could be made: A weapon shop; this would allow Serpent's weapons to stay in the game instead of being replaced with Wrath of Cronos' armament, WoC's weapons being sold in the weapons shop, restricted to the character that can wield them, as armor items are in Serpent Resurrection. A few other modifications may be required, but that's pretty much the gist of it.
The legalities on both mods do not state that they cannot be unmodified or unaltered, so this project should be feasible without explicit permission from the authors, with credit given where it is due of course.
Plus, the name "Serpent Resurrection: Wrathful Edition" is kind of catchy.
Why can't I do it
I have tried. Oh, believe me I have tried, but a mere look at Serpent Resurrection and Wrath of Cronos' scripting made me well aware of my inadequacy as anything related to mods. I lack the required skill, even the most basic notion about ACS and DECORATE that would be necessary to even think about making such a compatibility patch, and sadly, life outside of Cronos keeps me from having the time necessary to learn how to code.
The problems I see with the coding, are the scripted events in Serpent Resurrection that depend on a certain character class; for instance, a Fighter would be able to do one thing because he's strong but the Mage wouldn't because he's weak. I believe this can be surmounted by adding an extra "class" dummy to the scripted events, that was usable with the WoC characters. Again, unless a full merging is done and SR's assets completely replaced or merged with those in WoC.
Tl;dr
Serpent Resurrection has incredible maps but its gameplay can feel dull at times.
Wrath of Cronos has fantastic gameplay but lacks interesting Hexen maps to play it with.
Making them work together would make one of the most awesome mods, ever. Alas, I cannot do it because I lack any modding skills whatsoever.
And this is my mod idea. I hope you find it to be interesting and worthy of seeing the light of day, and if anything, do try both Serpent Resurrection and Wrath of Cronos. You'll have fun with them.
It's about time we had a nice Tron WAD.
I'd like to make one, I got a decent storyline about a marine following a criminal with purple glowing eyes into the grid.
He get's put into a nice Tron suit, and equipped with an identification disk. Things on The Grid are going kinda haywire, and there are these monsters everywhere who eat data. You got to blow your way through them, corrupt programs, and capture the criminal before he destroys the world by connecting himself though out the internet, and launching nukes at his enemies.
One really cool idea I had for it is this purple eyed criminal finds out that the Old Grid (Tron) is accessible through the Current Grid (Tron Legacy), but is blocked off, so he uses these data eating monsters to get in. However everything is shut down, so when the player enters the world everything seems frozen in time. So you have to navigate through this frozen grid, including a Light Cycle Battle that kills you with one touch of a Light Trail all with Data Eating Monsters chase you.
Then MCP gets reactivated, and everything starts moving again, and he's sort of a miniboss.
As for weapons, an identification disk could double as a projectile, and a chainsaw, and can be duel wielded as an upgrade.
There's not a lot of good long range weapons to choose from, but there is grenades , light swords , staffs , , and shields , I'm sure some of the staffs can have projectile functions added.
There is a few guns though, there's Casters Cane Gun which could make a good shotgun type weapon, and this rocket launcher from Tron: Uprising , and the Cesta that could be used as a projectile weapon .
Also thought maybe these Tron inspired guns from Saints Row could work well, automatic rifle , arm cannon .
As for the Data Eating Monsters, I think the aliens from Attack The Block would fit right in with the Tron universe, and make a good Pinky like opponent .
The Recognizers would make a perfect Caco like opponent
and there is more then enough Villains to fill the rest of the roster http://tron.wikia.com/wiki/Category:Villains
Bytes could be used as guides, ammo, or health .
Certain Disks , or Recoders could be used as keys.
The Power Upgrade Weapon is a device created by Shaw. When attached to a program's identity disc, the weapon bestows a huge burst of energy which enhances the wearer's combat skills at the cost of their sanity, this would be perfect for a power up.
Also had a cool idea for health that would be pretty much reverse nukage/lava, Energy Water that slowly restores health.
and come on being derezzed makes for great death animations
The reasons I can't do it, are I'm not a spriter, and don't do so well with coding, I do however plan on making some Tron inspired maps that capture the tron feeling if I find the right textures for it.

You know I also have a idea where one of the levels you have to get on the Descent ship to fly further in the level until you deport off to the exit.
I lost the wad out of sight in my hard disk mess but I had a huge area with invisible water and this image as HUD. A room full of cacodemons and I shot rockets and plasma balls. It was fun but I never edited it further.....The monsters were too silly to act like space ships......maybe today they could be reDECORATEd
Right now I'm currently tied up with a large project, but I still wish I had time to work on some other ideas I have. Today I decided to start working on a Xenomorph sprite sheet, for a small scale Aliens WAD i want to create. I created the sprite from scratch, and plan on finishing off the rest of them, little by little. I want to make a quick WAD similar to the first aliens movie. Perhaps it will be a small ship with a hand full of aliens, up against a player with very limited ammo and health.
