Uhm. You do know that what you're suggesting that the solution to GZDoom not being able to run on ancient hardware is to use ZDoom? Just you've done it in the most obscure way possible.maseter wrote:To sidestep this you have to enable software rendering by editing gzdoom-Administrator.ini and under [GlobalSettings] set vid_renderer to 0.

The proper solution with such obsolete hardware would be to save a bit of money and buy a cheap modern low end graphics card. Sorry, but I really can't feel any pity for people still stuck with such old Intel garbage.

Don't forget floor/ceiling reflections. It can do wall reflections but only in the Duke 3D esque way where there's space behind it so it'll come out looking warped if it's not there.

Using GeForce 9200, it works fine, however when using some mods like Droplets with Smooth Doom and turned on dynamic lights, it gets a bit laggy. I really should upgrade.
However when I tried to run Ultimate Torment and Torture with the update mod or something, everytime I'd shoot a monster, the blood effects would drop my framerate to, like, 5 FPS. It was hilarious.

That's clearly signs of a computer that's just too underpowered. The Geforce 9200 is probably the lowest hardware that still supports OpenGL 3.x

If that wasn't enough, look what the official manual says about it (it is an already assembled computer, so it has a manual):

This is not just normal back-box lie, this is advanced lying.Enjoy superior graphic performance and rich visual effects and incredible realism on today’s popular games and applications with NVIDIA® GeForce® 9200 Graphics

Depends on when that box was printed.

It's from 2011 and that manual is an on-line one, I don't think the computer itself came with a manual. I had to tune down even Half-Life 2 through console (It would run good at lower resolution, but I seriously hate to play at a non-native one)

I'll not lie, the geforce 9400GT had almost the same performance as the intel hd3000, so if you get something like intel hd4600 + some low end i5 you'll be fine

im sorry graf, but that is just a straight up slap to the face and a knee to the dick of so many doomers out there. alot of us dont have expendable income, not everyone around here makes $21,000 a year or have a place of residence due to military service or anything of the such, i think i can speak for everyone when i say if we could, we would. (being clear, im not saying your military or make that much, just a comparison)
Re: [Survey] How many of you CANNOT run GZDoom's OpenGL rend
You mean you have an income? I bought a GTX 650 on no income at all, and that's not even the minimum spec cemented. Besides which, there is a critical difference between low-end hardware and ancient hardware. GZDoom will happily run on low-end hardware; Not ancient hardware. And low-end is deliberately affordable, otherwise it wouldn't exist. And is probably a good idea, as OpenGL 3.0 is starting to become the minimum spec in more things then just Doom. Notably, there isn't a single no legacy driver that doesn't support OpenGL 4, between all hardware manufactures (yes, including Intel).
Besides which, there's more then one way to upgrade hardware at no cost. Hardware chaining with friends and acquaintances is always a good practice. My group has had motherboards change 4 different hands, and still provide an actual benefit to the recipient.

One wonders what kind of computer you bought. Because, you know, my first GL 3.0 capable system was bought in 2007 and retired in 2012.
So either you run on a stone age system or did not inform yourself when buying underspecced garbage.
If you feel 'slapped in the face' by that, so be it. I really couldn't care less about that bottom segment of users. Your type demands a lot of work from others to save a measly amount of money.

by all means if you can point out how to get ahold of one for EXACTLY 10 bucks and stuff it in a cheap ass laptop ill do itedward850 wrote:You mean you have an income?
