i don't remember a lot of the mission packs, but i don't remember struggling with them too much. the new weapons were a bit too powerful, i guess?
i should find some Quake 1 mods perhaps. the game is actually really fun to play, and feels like a sensible evolution compared to Doom in the gameplay aspect.
It's been a while, admittedly, but Quake II: The Reckoning's enemy/item placement is a lot cheaper than I remember. It would appear that the Xatrix method of increasing a game's difficulty is to place chip-damage enemies in confined/hazardous spaces and serve up fuck-all health.
The only Q2 Expansion pack i only like is ground zero, they sure put a lot of efforts on this one. And yet... Umm, you'll see why i kinda don't like it as well if you already played it.

Hahahahahaha. Haha. Ha.
I'll give you a hint: Monsters that are so overpowered, "quad rockets" are a thing.
I find MP1 a lot better, personally.
Having played through both recently? Rogue's is far better, especially in terms of level design. Also the only enemies that really require the plasma cells or multi rockets are boss tier enemies like the mini Cthons or the portal guardians at the end of most Ep 2 maps.
Admittedly, Scourge of Armagon does have a lot more whizbang effects like rotating geometry and bullet holes, but a lot of the maps are pretty crap.
I wouldn't have hated Quake 2: Ground Zero if it wasn't for those annoying ball turret things that appeared in pretty much every room after a while.
I was so tempted at one point to just fetch the source code and make the turret entities despawn instantly, but I decided not to.
I found The Reckoning sort of okay, but the part where monsters start having power shields gets irritating, and I do find it disappointing they didn't use a new boss. I remember playing the Quake mission packs at one point, but it was so long ago I don't remember mcuh about them.
does anyone know the song this MIDI file is based off of? it's a really nice song, but i wouldn't have any clue what song it's based off of... especially since it was a MUS file originally, so all MIDI metadata is purged when i converted it back to MIDI.
So I think my Slade is back to normal, and won't corrupt any files anymore. If I can 100% confirm this, I can start modding again, even though I've forgotten everything I know.

Now HOW in the world can you forget how to mod Doom?! Of ALL things?
Ordered a Saturn A/V Cable from Amazon, only to realize that I also need a backup cartridge and potentially a new internal battery if I want to save my game. Plus I've heard that Saturn disc drives have started going bad, so I'm probably not going to be able to play regardless...
As much as I love my copy of Saturn Quake (got it back when I was a Sega fan and not an FPS fan, weirdly enough,) I think I'll go the emulation route instead.
In other news, the Rogue campaign is going swimmingly. I find the levels much less sloppy, though I've barely scraped the surface. Hoping it maintains the same level of quality, though as said earlier, "quad rockets" don't give off a good vibe.
