I swear I hate those sorts of effects UNLESS they're actually justified.

Lens flare effects instantly make anything 72% more 90s.

Which is not a problem. Especially not for ports of 90s games.

Funny thing is, almost every modern FPS I see today have huge-ass lens flares coming from the sun, some even IN ADDITION to the already ridiculous amount of god rays. Battlefield 4, Titanfall to name a couple...

God rays actually look cool. Lens flares just get in the way and don't really make sense unless you are literally viewing through a camera.
