Time for me to take a break from Hideous Destructor for the night.
Sometimes you have bad luck in that mod and things refuse to die properly and it is VERY STRESSFUL.

And scratch that, it crashes like mad on my system - and a crashy system is not what you want when you're backing files up in preparation to wipe them out forever.
Linux Mint x64 doesn't and also manages to write to my external, so Mint is the truly based system.
(the xfce GUI also doesn't suck)

3 out of the 11 examples I posted were about Brutal Doom- so it's not just that.

@TheMightyHeracross:
Yeah, it's definitely not just you. That thread with Essel and Tormentor was an eye-opener. I think something's wrong with the community when respected long-timers (that aren't SargeMkIV) start having a spat in public. Does everyone not know each other here or something?
And yes, I know I was an offender in one of those posts, but I find it irritating that no matter how much of a clear history another user may have they're allowed to keep posting. 'course, that's probably keeping ME here too, but I learned to just use the foe list if someone bothered me that much, at least.
On the other OTHER hand, given that some of the offenders in Heracross' post were community long-timers, this is clearly way more of a problem than just chronic trolls or problem users.
Then again, I've seen snide behavior like this from all across the open-source-software and game-modding community (including the Touhou community and Linus Torvalds himself, for fuck's sake). I'm sadly not at all surprised anymore, just disappointed.

I am pretty sure it's just shitstorm season, hopefully it'll pass at some point.
On a totally different topic, then it's been almost five hours and this backup with a total size of ~90 GB is only halfway done.
jesus christ does this drive have a lot of tiny files that my external hdd does not like writing at all

The ZDoom community has ALWAYS been a hotbed for conflict. I've noticed this from the day I signed up. I'm not exactly sure where it comes from, but the seeming regularity of heated exchanges on this forum probably fosters a mindset that perpetuates them.

Well, least we are not a kind of Hiveminds. but that would be peaceful and fun, through. anyway about other reasons, i say the lack of knowledge and english skills could make some mistakes or misunderstanding. Especially me when i was on this forum very earlier, pretty shameful to think about it.
Re: The New What Did You Last Do Thread
I can shrug off the insults when they come from no-rep newbies with maybe a few hundred posts tops, and Sarge clearly had issues, but when two long-time big-names in the community start trading accusations (and one of them gets their account hacked) and a source port developer starts acting snarky towards suggestions/criticism I think it goes well beyond there simply being a high social temperature.Trance wrote:The ZDoom community has ALWAYS been a hotbed for conflict. I don't like it. Where is people's professionalism? It's one thing when you're having a bad day and you slip up a little, it's another thing when it takes particularly egregious or repeated offenses for even a tempban (no offense meant to Phoenix and Weasel---I know you guys figure it's better to be forgiving than risk being too strict, and I understand that even if I sometimes disagree with it) and community figureheads have meltdowns over petty things, or even just crediting issues that should have been handled matter-of-factly and then put behind everyone.
