The Still New What Did You Last Do Thread
Re: The New What Did You Last Do Thread
You're probably playing it with VSync on, which causes a bit of a conflict. The 35Hz timer was picked because it divided evenly from 70Hz, the average CRT refresh rate. Your LCD screen, however is 60 or 120Hz, which 35Hz does not divide evenly into. With vsync on, the framerate becomes unbalanced as the frames are being locked "unevenly".

Here's a photo I took today. I think it's canon.

Ugh... I'd love to buy the next Halo game if it was available on the damn 360. I'm not buying a new console. I've already made my choice. At least there's this...
It makes me really sad that Halo, the first shooter series I got into, is a console exclusive. It could be so much more.

Re: The New What Did You Last Do Thread
So... I tried to upload a webm to youtube. After waiting for the whole 30MB to upload at 75KB/s, I get an error about the filename containing non-standard characters.
To be sure, I rename it to "a.webm"... and get the same goddamn error.

Do you mean actual 24fps movie streams or do you mean DVDs? DVDs are formatted for analog TV standards, and as such play back at either 50Hz or 60Hz interlaced.Nash wrote: watching movies at 24 FPS

It goes away if you play Doom at 35 FPS for a couple of weeks/months.Nash wrote:playing Doom at 35 FPS feels choppy as fuck
Of course playing at 60 FPS becomes smooth as fuck, but eh - I like the choppiness.

Re: The New What Did You Last Do Thread
My screen(s) can run at 75Hz, so I use that. I don't cap ZDoom to 35 FPS but I do notice differences in animations (particularly on frames that last one tic). It divides the 70/2 frames better, the extra 5 FPS doesn't make a noticeable difference.edward850 wrote:The 35Hz timer was picked because it divided evenly from 70Hz, the average CRT refresh rate. Funny side note: The complaints about modern games targetting 30 FPS instead of 60, but Doom did more or less the same thing for the same reason. (Performance!)
Another: Wolfenstein 3D ran at 70 FPS. ECWolf uses Decorate with "half tics" and wow, you can do some crazy smooth animation.
No Halo 2 Anniversary for 360, either.undead003 wrote:Ugh... I'd love to buy the next Halo game if it was available on the damn 360.
Then again, XBONE hasn't gotten a Reach release (yet?), so sucks to be them.
Also it's nice to find some other Halo players around here...

Ah, Halo 2...
Memories. I have Halo 2 Vista. Months ago I lent it to a friend who said it didn't work, and I haven't tried it since then.
Perhaps I should.

I feel like I should play other things with that PC.
But I understand what you mean. Playing the classic BLOOD without any HQ-things is an interesting experience to me.
