Doom: Evil Unleashed -- Continued by hfc2x
Re: Doom: Evil Unleashed -- Shareware Version
LOL shame on me... It doesn't even mention map numbers for other episodes. Anyways, if you need help, I'm eager to contribute with your project (as long as I have free time). Keep the good work!

Re: Doom: Evil Unleashed -- Shareware Version
That's not a bad idea to just do one episode really. It's best to not get over ambitious. If people like it enough, maybe others could join or take over once you finish.

Re: Doom: Evil Unleashed -- Shareware Version
You could make an episode replacement, like eternity, serenity and infinity (find the on idgames database), and then if it turns up good, which it probably will, then if wanted, a sequel episode could be made,
and I'm not the mapinfo specialist, but instead of ut-register-doom, mabye doom2?
I know it's possible, doom2 (episodes) are in a PSX Doom TC...
Your choice!

Re: Doom: Evil Unleashed -- Shareware Version
Well that does remind me, I want to see how people think this should be packaged. Seeing as though the forum software keeps fucking up my poll (it keeps screwing up how many options there are and changing what the options say). So do not vote for the last option and follow this instead:
1. Stand alone (think Action Doom 2)
2. Doom 1 Pwad
3. Doom 2 Pwad
4. Custom engine
5. No custom engine
Vote once in 1-3, vote once in 4-5.
With standalone I think it would be acceptable because this doesn't have any levels from the registered version (the maps are from the alpha, which is free in price and to distribute). The few graphic resources from full Doom 1/Doom 2 are just some sprites and a few textures. I really don't think id would care, this project is very different from those two anyway.
About the engine, it would mostly have tweaks here and there to make it feel a little more like vanilla and have a few alpha elements not available without source modification. (Automap for optional helmet hud, alternate hud weapon offsets for different screen sizes (again for the helmet), more realistic bobbing). Keep in mind that this will still be fully compatible with regular zdoom, but without the bonus material/effects/overall engine feel.

I tried to fix that myself and I can see what you mean. This is a problem. I'll go report it in Bugs.Sodahollic wrote:Seeing as though the forum software keeps fucking up my poll (it keeps screwing up how many options there are and changing what the options say)

I've had this problem on almost every phpbb forum I've used...wildweasel wrote:I tried to fix that myself and I can see what you mean. This is a problem. @Sodaholic: I vote for 2 and 5. I see no need for a custom engine and although it could be standalone, it might take longer than necessary to make it into an IWAD (I'm actually quite torn between 1 and 2).
Edit: the poll looks fracked up altogether... my vote didn't seem to go through right.
Re: Doom: Evil Unleashed -- Shareware Version
I vote for the standalone, as making it a PWAD (and seeing where it will go) will simply make it a standalone which uses an IWAD to work... And, why not use a custom engine? Simply because the (annoying) bobbing ZDoom uses makes it feel like Doom. Yes, it's a different game, but still it's Doom. I vote 1 and 5.

I vote that it should be a Doom 1 PWAD, simply to not get this thing boo'ed off the net.

Re: Doom: Evil Unleashed -- Shareware Version
You could make different versions, otherwise 1, and idk
Re: Doom: Evil Unleashed -- Shareware Version
Doom 1 PWAD because a stand-alone, while neat, would be morally sketchy (it's id's stuff after all). Note that you could very easily make it dependent only on resources shared by both Ultimate Doom and Doom II, making it a PWAD for either.
No custom engine, please. If you need a few engine changes, suggest them as features for ZDoom. Most people will want to play it with their latest version of ZDoom that has some new nifty features. I don't think you'll be wanting to maintain a ZDoom fork, will you?

Re: Doom: Evil Unleashed -- Shareware Version
Actually, I do want to fork it. It won't be updated, and it would be pretty stripped down to not have anything the project doesn't use, it would be "seperate" like doom 64 ex, but still can run in zdoom (in the future). Remember that this will remain 100% ZDoom compatible. Feel free to make mods for it, weather it's on the custom engine, Zdoom, Gzdoom, or Skulltag.
Re: Doom: Evil Unleashed -- Shareware Version
If you go with a custom engine, be sure to make it optional. You'll narrow your audience otherwise.
[EDIT] Except that you just said that you would... carry on, then.

Re: Doom: Evil Unleashed -- Shareware Version
I'm not voting on this crooked poll, sorry.
Instead, I'd really suggest you using Doom 1 PWAD with ZDoom. Seriously, this makes most sense. An original full standalone release of yours would only be legitimate if released by id Software. It's the "Doom" trademark in it, that's why. Whereas Doom 1 as a base would feel most at home. Besides, there's Freedoom for people who wouldn't have Doom at them, so they could play your mod.

Re: Doom: Evil Unleashed -- Shareware Version
I'd say a doom 1 iwad (since if down the line this is actually expanded to 6 episodes like in the DB, you'll have the episodic structure right there), and with a port like zdoom.
