Re: DOOM gets release date and a trailer.
Honestly, I love that they made the Hell Knight the Doom 3 one and the Baron the classic one, so that they're not straight recolors.

Nah there weren't any options in the alpha besides turning AA off which didn't help when I turned it off.Dancso wrote:Well, given that it was alpha, it might be better optimized for the release.agaures wrote:I've got a 960 as well. When i played the Alpha i wasn't getting a solid 60fps. It was jumping from 30-60.
Did you have any graphical settings to play with? / If so, what settings were you using?

My first reaction video in 3 years.
Once I get this game, I'll even make my first LP!

Re: DOOM gets release date and a trailer.
I was mostly pessimistic about it the first trailer, and I still feel like the executions will get repetitive and slow the game down (like in Serious Sam 3), but this footage has rekindled my hopes. You get quite a few shots of Hell in this trailer and it actually has colour! They may just have listened to all the feedback about the first few screenshots they released.
Edit: That cover art is so garbo though. Needs to inject some 80s into it!

Walk up to this enemy, press a button, watch as the game takes control away from you and plays a short cutscene, walk up to this other enemy, press the same button, watch as the game takes control away from you...

Baron is pink with horns and Cacodemons are red and blue. DooM is saved.

When will people understand that the executions are optional?Ghastly_dragon wrote:Walk up to this enemy, press a button, watch as the game takes control away from you and plays a short cutscene, walk up to this other enemy, press the same button, watch as the game takes control away from you...

Re: DOOM gets release date and a trailer.
The huge amount of negative critique to the game is depressing. People expect Bethesda to release an OpenGL-based game with 2D sprites in 2016? For heck's sake guys, time passes and games change, and even when it changes, they can still nail it. This trailer shows that even with the new mechanics, DOOM can still be a success.TheMightyHeracross wrote:When will people understand that the executions are optional?Ghastly_dragon wrote:Walk up to this enemy, press a button, watch as the game takes control away from you and plays a short cutscene, walk up to this other enemy, press the same button, watch as the game takes control away from you...
Also yeah, the finishers. People seemed to enjoy them in Brutal Doom, why complain now? They're faster and look even better than in the wad, I think it's a good plus.
Just my two cents in the overall situation.

When they think of something better to complain about.TheMightyHeracross wrote:When will people understand that the executions are optional?Ghastly_dragon wrote:Walk up to this enemy, press a button, watch as the game takes control away from you and plays a short cutscene, walk up to this other enemy, press the same button, watch as the game takes control away from you...
Good thing all people can complain about is stupid nonsense, it indicates the game might be going in the right path.
Re: DOOM gets release date and a trailer.
They designed the difficulty of the game with the fact that players can do executions in mind. If they make it so you can get through the game perfectly fine without executions, then they've made the game way too easy for players who do use executions.TheMightyHeracross wrote:When will people understand that the executions are optional?
A lot of games that have multiple optional ways of recovering health have this same problem.
Okay I'll bite. Most of the weapons look like they do the exact same thing (how many generic rapid-fire weapons and generic slow-with-heavy-punch weapons have they shown?), the models look like they're made of play-dough, loadouts killed any chance of competitive multiplayer a la Quake Live.LkMax wrote:When they think of something better to complain about.
I'm not complaining "waah this isn't doom.exe," I want a game that's good.

Re: DOOM gets release date and a trailer.
One thing I haven't seen yet, and I don't think anyone else has ever piped up about the new Doom are switches. The closest we've seen are biometric scanners, but those are only for unlocking a nearby door, and based on the campaign trailer it looks like there will be colored keys to open certain doors.
But in the original games, there are often a lot of switches which can be flipped and triggers to open certain doors, reveal hidden secrets or a whole host of enemies, raise or lower platforms or walls, or even change the level layout drastically. Will there be such switches or triggers in this Doom or if not, would it greatly benefit from having them?

Re: DOOM gets release date and a trailer.
They've showcased their level editor, during which they also revealed you could set up events and triggers. Whether we'll see any switches specifically I don't know, but I would not rule it out.

Re: DOOM gets release date and a trailer.
i think the game looks okay as it is. so what if it won't turn out perfect? it'll still probably be more enjoyable to play than Doom 3. of course, i probably won't be able to play it when it releases, nor very well when i can, but i'm still hopeful it'll be fairly entertaining so far.
