OK, I uploaded it to the same directory as the screenshots

http://www.rowand.myzen.co.uk/xmas2000/

Just unzip the contents to a new directory, drop doom2.wad in there and double click the exe. The necessary wads will be auto loaded.

As I said, it uses a special exe. It's actually my hacked version or the xmas99 exe which in turn is a source modified version of zdoom 1.17c. It's worth playing just to see how much Zdoom has changed if nothing else.

The mod consists of 10 levels - most of which are fairly small. A lot of the levels are old '94 style levels. Some of them were already Christmassy and if you have played any of the Christmas wads on idgames you may recognise them. Others were not already Christmas themed, but I retextured them and probably did a bit of editing to them myself. Basically, back in 2000, I did a search of all the Christmassy add ons I could find, levels, graphics, whatever, compiled them all together, fixed bugs, added some of my own stuff and then put it all together with the custom exe, mapinfo etc. I just played it right through and it all works so... um have fun or something. :)

[edit] Oh, I won't leave it up for long because there's a lot of stuff in there that isn't mine and I've no idea who the original authors were so I can't credit them. [/edit]

This is still kind of a work in progress, but I give you Sin City Doom!
Spoiler:
Okay, its just red... Its still a WIP idea and stuff. I'm actually not satisfied with just changing the palette since it doesn't give me full control over what gets changed and stuff. I'll finish this but I'm not sure where to go next with it, I'm thinking of restoring the yellows but I'm worried about it not looking good with certain wall textures. (such as the hallway lights in Map 1) I'll give it a shot real quick though and see how it looks.

I'd like to kinda take this idea a bit further than a palette though and make it a full graphics mod, but that would likely end up meaning having to re-edit almost every Doom graphic.

I tried out wildweasal's palette on E3M1, thought it looked pretty good, so I thought "Why not try it out on something thaty he didn't recommend?" So I loaded up my first ZPack entry, and got a rather interesting result in the techbase bit. Rather than looking Hellish, it looked rather like it was a Sepia palette.

See for yourself:
Spoiler:
I like that pallette too, by the way. Also, did anybody see how cool the fireballs looked? Cacodemon and Imp fireballs in particular.

Oh, and if you're keen to see what Twisted Joke looks like with your pallette, it is up for download on my website and /idgames (I think the one on my website is slightly more up-to-date with co-op play being more considered).

EDIT:

Ok, I got in there with the winter palette. Very nice. Makes everything subtly blue, which actually has the effect of maknig the place feel colder. Here's a screen (similar to the second coldwave one):

Hmm. It's fading to an odd color. Is there any usage of Sector_SetFade in that screenshot that might be throwing things off? It didn't seem to strike that brown color in Enjay's screenshots.

However, I do think the browns could use a touch more blue to them, and perhaps some more in the grays as well.

As for Weasel's pallete, it is nice, but I thik the yellow is a bit too strong. It would look better to be either a little more pale, or oh-so-slightly brown instead.

I worked on another one. It works pretty well with most built in graphics, but with small issues (mostly on the fist). If anyone wants to try to fix these, they can. I couldn't do it before.
Spoiler: WARNING: Large
(yes, there is a difference from the regular doom pallette. It is just more visible when you play with it)

@Shinjani: Nope, that's what the pallette itself is doing. There's no fade at all out in that area. I have a few coloured lights on teleporters, but otherwise there's no colouration at all in the wad.

Like I said, you can d/l the wad and see for yourself if you like.

Oooh...this is pretty interesting.

@Xaser: I tried coldwave on Doom 2 map01; the grass outside doesn't look frosted. Other than that, it looks like the level is pretty cold. :)

Redid the winter palette. It has more contrast now. Also removed the COLORMAP lump from the WAD; ZDoom is perfectly capable of making its own colormap, and does a better job of it than XWE (That's why the white snow faded to yellow).

EDIT: lol I forgot that I wanted to add more blue to those browns. Fixed.

Okay, I went into photoshop and made this, but when I try to use the pallet from the color table ACT I saved it ended up all tuttifruiti. That makes me sad, because I liked the way everything looks... especially the abominable snowcaco in the corner.

Do the same process to a picture of Doom's palette, then use the program Xaser linked to for building the palette in the proper order.

A. The process was complicated and weird and it took a while. I don't remember the steps to do it.
B. I tried what you said, and that program is weird and uncomfortable, not to mention the fact that it doesn't like my ACT files.

A. Eh, do your best :P
B. Yeah, the program is wierd, but once you get used to it, you can make palettes quickly. And it didn't like that ACT files Photoshop CS3 made for me either; I had to build them from scratch.

I basically took the Doom palette into Paint Shop Pro and screwed with the color balance so that it would shift the palette into a lot of very hot colors, almost completely eliminating the green and blues and turning most of it into reds, oranges, and yellows. Some graphics look a little glitchy like this, but it makes Hell look a lot more like Hell. Try playing it with Demon Eclipse or Memento Mori 2.
That gave me a head ache.
