The WIP Thread
Re: WHAT THE HELL are you working on (WIP THREAD not gossip)
I've made a drivable Jeep where 1 player can drive, 1 player can ride in the passenger's seat, and 1 player can stand in back. The only problem is that I need to wait for Zandronum to catch up to ZDoom in terms of voxel support. I don't want to use OGL models and say "fuck you" to software players by not letting them have the full vehicular-manslaughter experience.
(Incase you're wondering, this is the model I used: http://thefree3dmodels.com/stuff/vehicl ... 3-1-0-2405)

That is incredible!
Why does the car seem to be randomly blinking off position though?

Re: WHAT THE HELL are you working on (WIP THREAD not gossip)
Like I said, that only started happening when I fired up FRAPS. I'm not sure exactly why it happens but I'm guessing it has something to do with processing power. (I have a rather crappy computer, I can't even play Minecraft without turning the fog on "super thick".) Most players who have decent computers should have no visual problems with it though. When FRAPS isn't running, the car looks nice and smooth. You'll have to take my word for it. It even "jerks" you back in your seat when you shift to a higher gear (0:11-0:15); an unexpected "realistic" side-effect caused by the script giving ThrustThing a higher value.Dancso wrote:That is incredible!

-FZONE (Some collab)
-A spriting project :3
-Some refinery map that's taken me over a month so far.

Interesting. Is it hard to learn?Dancso wrote:Java. There's a neat free engine i use called JMonkey with a lot of built-in features.Nash wrote:What are you writing that in, Dancso?
I may need to write a map editor that works on the concept of modular "kits" or "pieces" and have it output in UDMF format... my linedef mapping skills in Doom Builder 2 is very slow and I'll need outside help if I am ever going to see my zombie project finished...

Actually, I think Java is suppose to be very simple, and easy to learn.Nash wrote:Interesting. Is it hard to learn?Dancso wrote:Java. There's a neat free engine i use called JMonkey with a lot of built-in features.Nash wrote:What are you writing that in, Dancso?

It's huge though so don't expect to learn everything it can do overnight.
Re: WHAT THE HELL are you working on (WIP THREAD not gossip)
Java isn't hard to learn in my opinion, especially if you have previously used similar languages (I would go as far to say ACS is a good warmup)
There's a lot to learn about its quirks and there's a huge documentation available on its official website, along with dozens of tutorials that go over the basics of most elements there are (from explaining simple variables through thread handling to network coding)
Learning JMonkey can be a challenge if you haven't done 3D programming before. They have their own documentation about the API but some of it is undocumented, or very outdated. There's also a good few tutorials to get started.

more progress!
just need to implement the power core in the empty slot near the drum, and a few tweaks pending.
Re: WHAT THE HELL are you working on (WIP THREAD not gossip)
yay future shotgun. Also badly scaled doom palette with a weird arrangement I've never seen before.
Re: WHAT THE HELL are you working on (WIP THREAD not gossip)
I think it's the same order as usual, just upside down. Although the rows are a different length to what most of the programs I have used show.Kate wrote:Also badly scaled doom palette with a weird arrangement I've never seen before.

The torches look really out of place in the first screenshot.scalliano wrote:I ATEN'T DEAD

The teleporter at the end of the demo was surrounded by the same torches. You haven't seen the rest of the map yet, but trust me, they're contextual

Re: WHAT THE HELL are you working on (WIP THREAD not gossip)
I seriously cannot wait for TOP 2 Scalliano, great stuff so far!
