Re: WHAT THE HELL are you working on (WIP THREAD not gossip)
See, QR-style "viral" marketing only really works if you make the user have to work for their tease. Instead of it linking to the HacX website (which is nearly a year out of date), what would have been really awesome is if you had registered a site for the Genemp Corporation. Make up a false front company site that goes on about their "humanitarian efforts" and "advances in the realm of human evolution." Then you hide a little "employee access" section that requires a password - something that you either make easy to guess, or hide in the website itself (probably through something like steganography, or that trick where you append a .RAR file to the end of a JPEG image). Only when that password goes in do you start giving the "player" the juicy bits of backstory. Stuff that subtly (or even directly) alludes to the GENIE project, maybe some blueprints for an enemy or a weapon that'll appear in the game. Maybe even a hint that leads to an exclusive secret area in the game that has a bunch of awesome shit in it.

Except that a user's instinct when encountering a password-requiring link is to leave it alone as restricted access rather than attempting to crack it.

Well, the thing is, for an ARG to work, you have to have a fairly large and enthusiastic audience. It doesn't quite work out so much on the small scale.

Re: WHAT THE HELL are you working on (WIP THREAD not gossip)
I FINALLY got around to remaking the handcannon sprites these past few days. It's done now.
Re: WHAT THE HELL are you working on (WIP THREAD not gossip)

The new HUD, inspired by a HUD made by Sky Driver. The health bar has a warp2 animation to it, and the gauge flashes when you're at low health (yellow<50, red<25). I'm trying to do that effect for the armor bar as well. I'm deciding on whether or not to keep the gold icon cumulative as shown (it starts out as a stack of coins, then as you get more and more gold, it changes to a gold sack, then a chest, then a pile of riches as shown above). I think it takes up too much space. Not shown is the currently selected inventory, added to the right side above the altfire ammo gauge, since I took this pic.
Only problem is, it doesn't animate correctly, even though the appropriate images are replaced in the right order, as far as I can tell.Nash wrote:I always thought the default Strife water was ugly. Good job!

That's what I actually have in mind, the website code was just a test since I'm kinda new to thiswildweasel wrote:See, QR-style "viral" marketing only really works if you make the user have to work for their tease. Might have some of them on the website in the future (it's being updated currently) and in-game as well.
Also: screenshot above contains awesome. Strife sure deserves some more love!

Half-Life water?
Re: WHAT THE HELL are you working on (WIP THREAD not gossip)
Nope. Just Hexen water, but slightly desaturated & lightened, and hue shifted a bit from blue to the cyan range.leileilol wrote:Half-Life water?

Re: WHAT THE HELL are you working on (WIP THREAD not gossip)
A couple of years ago I posted a narrow but readable font WAD that was heavily based on the font "Agency FB". I made the letters a little wider by one pixel for increased readability (some by 2px), and now with 100% more lower case letters!

This is how I celebrated finally releasing The Martyr, I started on a simple weapon mod that's a recreation of an unreleased weapon mod I made 2 years ago (I think)
