The Simple Questions Thread
Re: The Simple Questions Thread
1st: define non-conformist.
2nd: wrong thread.
EDIT: I was gonna argue, but lost the motivation.

Re: The Simple Questions Thread
That was the most vague and confusing response to I don't even know exactly what it was responding to that I've seen so far. >_>
I guess it's my turn to ask my very first question ever in this thread:
... Huh?

Re: The Simple Questions Thread
The argue is in the wrong thread m8. I was fired up and was gonna go full-scale debate, but the flames died off so I thought "fuck it".
Even simpler: split the conformst talk to a different thread because this one got derailed.

Re: The Simple Questions Thread
Report my post then. Personally I don't find anything unfitting about it, but if another mod agrees with you they can do the split.

						Re: The Simple Questions Thread
Alright - so I let the report stay open for a day, but no moderator even touched it - I think in that time, each one of them had a chance to act on it and they chose not to. I think it's safe to say they did not agree that the discussion warranted a split.
While it might be a "simple questions" thread, there's nothing that says something that prompts a major discussion cannot occur here, and sometimes people do feel the need to discuss them. It seems for whatever reason the discussion that took place bothers you - for that I am sorry - but I believe they still served the purpose of the thread and there was nothing really wrong with them.
Because of that, I've gone ahead and closed the report.

Re: The Simple Questions Thread
Bothered? Nah. Just 9/10 threads that get a little derailed then get massively derailed and if it's not for the thread title I doubt anyone would figure out what all this is about. I just like to keep things tidy.
Anyway, no worries. It's settled. Thanks for handling the report.

Re: The Simple Questions Thread
It's pretty interesting to see how a simple question regarding the murse has turned up so many thoughts If there is demand for such individual topic which'd discuss what is "manly" and what is not, we could open up one. It is pretty nice to see how many people love to share thoughts about this.

This next question is, however, fully Doom-related, and it concerns grenades. I really liked cluster bombs in Worms (the first game) or the Funky Bomb in Scorched Earth, and I wish to know if it's possible to program such grenades in GZDoom. For those, who never played either game, the cluster bomb behaves like a grenade, but after the initial explosion, 5 clusters "bounce" out of it in 1-2 metres distance to random locations, and explode upon hitting something. Cluster bombs would be a nice addition, let it be a player or enemy weapon.

Re: The Simple Questions Thread
Still am interested in low-latency wireless screen cloning to a projector (got kind of buried in the above debate)

@reactor
You can just call a missile spawning function a couple of times in the grenade's Death state with 360 degree randomness for angle and pitch. Easy-peasy.

That sounds plausible Thank you for the quick response! I don't have a projector unfortunately, so I cannot help you

Re: The Simple Questions Thread
I was wondering: destroyed items will count towards the grand total? For example, if a box of shotgun shells gets crushed by a crushing-ceiling, will it count as "obtained" or it'll be deducted from your percentage?

Only the health bonus, armor bonus and powerups like the megasphere counts as items in the percentageReactor wrote:I was wondering: destroyed items will count towards the grand total? And if one of these items are crushed it'll be deducted, like: If the map has 10 counted items and one of them gets crushed, the percentage will be 90% or 9 of 10 items collected no matter what...
Re: The Simple Questions Thread
Well then, today I've learnt something new. I tought ammunition also counts in the grand total (and I knew that medikits or armorvests don't...who the hell would damage himself just to gobble'em up). This was a fairly important question for me, as now I can think about how to design some traps, which'd crush ammo caches, and the player must make a choice which one to pick up, and the rest of them can be crushed.
Speaking of soul-spheres, how they're used exactly? I mean, using up a medikit or an armorvest can be pretty easy to imagine, but...a soul-sphere? How Doomguy uses them? He breaks them open, swallows them in whole, wears them like earrings or necklaces, or what?

Re: The Simple Questions Thread
I think. as a soul in that condensed form, that thing will envelope you in a blue aura for a second until it disappear...Probably Doomguy has more souls than Shang Tsung from Mortal Kombat

Re: The Simple Questions Thread
Why are floor and ceiling textures aligned to to a grid instead of being freely movable like the wall textures? I imagine it's an engine quirk, but is there any specific reason it was designed like that? And would it be possible to make them free moving without overhauling basically the entire way textures are handled?

						Re: The Simple Questions Thread
You can easily move the ceiling/floor textures (flats) using [wiki]UDMF[/wiki]. Or using [wiki]Sector_SetFloorPanning[/wiki]/[wiki]Sector_SetCeilingPanning[/wiki] using ACS
