In America maybe, but in the rest of the world its probably the Euro for large areas. Though the dollar has embedded itself in multiple other cultures... so I suppose it is largely up for debate. Generic cash is better than a specified currency though.

"Credit" would probably be the best monetary unit for any mod. It's not specific to any country and usually refers to electronic systems.
