Ahh, the M26 Nearest Neighbour, I know that model well.Sergeant_Mark_IV wrote:My new tank sprites, mixing Duke Nukem 3D's tank, and Action Doom's tank. I have plans to make it work as a "realistic" tank a la Battlefield.
I think it'd be much more realistic if the body of the tank was wider and took up more space. It also should appear bigger than the player in game, unless this is like a drone or something.Sergeant_Mark_IV wrote:My new tank sprites, mixing Duke Nukem 3D's tank, and Action Doom's tank. When I meant realistic, I was talking about making the movement similar to the tanks on Battlefield, which allows you to move into one direction while facing the turret at another direction, not about the making the art look like a real tank.Captain J wrote:i think that turret is really big, inspired by merkava series maybe?
also, this tank's body does really needs quality works. pixel scaling of course, and make that body more bigger or make turret smaller would be bit realistic though.
The problem is that the bigger it gets, the more unwieldy it gets as a believably functioning enemy within the game. Basically the way that Doom AI entities behave and interact with the world is not really suitable for very big sprites unless some form of trickery is also employed. If a realistically large and proportioned tank sprite is used, frankly, it just looks silly snapping to 45 degree angles, vanishing on occasion when its centre point is no longer in a sector that is in view, being longer than it is wide (yet still having a square collision box) etc etc.gerolf wrote:I think it'd be much more realistic if the body of the tank was wider and took up more space.
