Sounds like a blown capacitor. Either your MOBO or PSU is toast. Since it lasts a bit after you turn it off it's probably the PSU.
Re: The New What Did You Last Do Thread
Happened to my computer as well and I had to change the motherboard. I got a new computer instead because tracking down the correct motherboard was impossible.

Re: The New What Did You Last Do Thread
the mobo in this thing is pretty useless anyway in terms of what it allows. if it's the PSU that's bust, then replacing it should cause minimal problems. if it's the motherboard that's bust... might as well get a whole new computer altogether. :/

Re: The New What Did You Last Do Thread
that's the killer, though; this motherboard is very dated. replacing a motherboard means i can't use my CPU or RAM in it anymore, so i have to replace that. and the enw mobo more than likely requires more power to run efficiently, so i need to get a new PSU, as well... that alone will cost me around 300 dollars or so, provided that this particular copy of XP isn't OEM, which would mean that i wouldn't be able to update hardware on it (i think? someone correct me if i'm wrong). hopefully i can get this thing up and running again. if not...Ctrl+Alt+Destroy wrote:Or, just get a new motherboard.Viscra Maelstrom wrote:if it's the motherboard that's bust... might as well get a whole new computer altogether. :/

...sounds like a plan! Getting some gamessssss~~Good afternoon and thank you for writing to us and for being a fan of CGR!
We are currently looking for a converter that will enable us to review PAL games. Hopefully we'll have that soon! As a result, we'd be happy to accept your donation.

I am horribly bored. I finished Bioshock Infinite on the weekend, and I wish I took more time to finish it, because now I have $7 left to spend and nothing I know of to buy with it.

drawn action without any eraser's help.
feet drawing was easy though but one life, one line drawing.

Re: The New What Did You Last Do Thread
Last night, I was informed of a work-in-progress game by the name of Papers, Please. The author describes it as a "Dystopian Document Thriller," which seems apt but doesn't really do much to explain what the thing actually plays like. Having played the beta to "completion" over Livestream with some buddies, I can summarize it here.
You play as an immigration officer on the border between two Soviet-esque countries, Arzstotzka and Kolechia, who have just recently ended a war. You inspect immigrants, one by one, checking their passports for any errors (expiration dates, incorrect information), and eventually pointing out contradictions between passports and entry permits, work permits, or national ID cards. The decision of whether an immigrant may enter the country or not is entirely down to you (though if you miss any errors, the M.O.A. sends you an infraction warning and threatens to dock your pay).
This is a pretty interesting setup for a puzzle-type game, but there are interesting little events that happen during the course of your work, too.

Spoiler: Events that occur during the betaI love the grim mood that this game presents, and I can't wait to see it finished. It is currently listed on Steam Greenlight, and if you play the game in its current Beta status, you can submit your name to the "list of immigrants" that the game will randomly pull names from.

Donate it to Gunnerkrigg Court, the most awesome web-comic I've ever read.Ricochet wrote:I have $7 left to spend and nothing I know of to buy with it.

Job simulators can kick ass if they're done right and Papers Please is one such game. In fact, a lot of various jobs can seem like puzzle games rather easily. On the other hand, I can tell I'd be sick of that job in a week if I actually had something like that.
Edit: Perhaps you'll see Brach Speicher trying to enter one day.

Re: The New What Did You Last Do Thread
Dusted off my "Magic & Mayhem for Heretic" CD and dumped the wads onto my HD. For a shovelwad collection I wan't expecting much, but the nigh-unplayable hilarity is currently keeping me going. I try one, hate it, then move on - I'm compiling a list of problems I keep seeing over and over.
(If DooM maps get "Start to Crate", I think Heretic should get "Start to Nitrogolem".)
It's an educational experience. I guess.
