Stephen Hillenburg, creator of Spongebob Squarepants has passed away on the 26th (aged 57). He's been suffering from ALS for a while.
Recently I stumbled upon a video that went in-depth about what made his cartoon so popular and why it seems to resonate with both young and adult audiences.
I think it's worth a gander even if you don't particularly like the show. It has certainly made me appreciate it more, even if I hadn't seen an episode in about a decade.
I suppose his legacy lives on in the endless supply of internet memes sparked by the show.
