Reminds me of the "Flying Alien Queen" Kenner action figure. Also they had something like this in Konami's arcade coin-op Aliens game, and then I also recall seeing something of this nature in the ancient Super Nintendo/Super Famicom AVP game, think it was a "Bat Hybrid" and was one of those end of the level bosses you have to beat in that game.

It's been a while since the idea of Xenomorphs with wings or with flight were used or even considered, but it's all good. Sometimes it just looks silly make them look like birds, maybe that's why it was never used or made in any of the later Aliens games.

Some earlier Aliens mods for Doom had versions of them flying, well actually floating around, but the author(s) never got around to finishing those projects and make it feel appropriately complete by giving those Aliens sprites any wings, so far it's like you've unknowingly just picked up where they left off and had abandoned their projects and ideas. :D

Good idea and all but the wings don't look big enough to support the body in flight.

Here are two videos by Endless123, demonstrating the Queen Xenomorph with his Predator Beta 9.7 mod. You can download the Predator 9.7 Beta from here: http://forum.zdoom.org/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=45192

I'm still going to mess around with it, like filling up those holes in the wings, making them look more full and less tattered.

I should strive to make it resemble this I think: http://aliens.wikia.com/wiki/Flying_Alien

I could imagine a flying Queen would be a nightmare to fight. She's already tough on the ground.

Perhaps if I elongate the area by the biceps and triceps, like in this figure, it would help. Though I would never use purple for its color

I've been pondering an idea to make a TC entitled Aliens: Ultimate Doom. Like the Predator wad, it will replace the Doom monsters with Xenomorphs. It will also replace the weapons with Aliens-themed weapons (pulse rifle, smartgun, etc.), and Hell textures with hive textures. It would sorta be like a what if Doomguy faced an alien infestation while working for Weland-Yutani, instead of UAC. It would be Ultimate Doom, and its levels, re-skinned as Aliens. Moreover, I also have plans to replace the expanded set of monsters in Doom II. At that point I could easily make Aliens: Hell on Earth , and Aliens: Final Doom.

Idea for a possible replacement of the Icon of Sin.

I was actually playing that last night at this bar/old-school arcade last night, called "Barcade". Me and my friend got to the 4th level, it was pretty fun!

I recall also seeing the flying xenomorph in the 2006 arcade light-gun game, Aliens: Extermination.

I've been digging around on the alien wikis looking for ideas of future doom monster replacements. I was thinking about using the Gorilla Xenomorph. Those were notable for having a powerful acid spitting attack. I remember the Gorilla Aliens from the comics back in the day. Moreover, I was also thinking of making the Predalien, maybe the Snake Alien , the Runner,

I was even thinking about this: http://avp.wikia.com/wiki/Razor_Claws

Maybe even Alien Chrysalis

Some of the aliens types seem a bit odd, like the Killer Crab Xenomorph. So I need to pick and choose which ones will make the cut.

This one from the linked page:
Image
is almost believable as a creature that could just about fly... maybe. Well, not really, but close enough for me to not be bothered by it.

However, this version (as seen in the above post)...
Image
cool looking though it may be, has just so many things about it that means it shouldn't be able to fly that I can't take it seriously at all. I don't know who the designer is but they have clearly never really looked at any animal capable of winged flight. (Although the way the digits support the silly little wings does make a bit more sense than the other picture.)

I'd play that MOD, let me know if you need testers if you start it. :P

Seconded, I'd be psyched to play a good Aliens wad.

Same here, it's been a while since a good Aliens themed wad came out. I'm not saying the existing Aliens wads are bad but they are old and we need something new in the Aliens department so go ahead with it and like Sgt. Shivers and Valherran it will be my pleasure to help you test it :D

Excellent! Thanks for the offers, that would be awesome. I can't wait to make Aliens: Ultimate Doom a reality. I just need to finish up the praetorian, and the flying drone & warrior. I suppose I could temporarily replace the specter with Justin Fisher's facehugger. But eventually I want to replace it with the Runner. Further I will replace the zombies with Weyland-Yutani commando androids. They are featured at the end of Alien 3.
