DoomDynMus - a dynamic music mod

Postby cyber_cool » Sat May 08, 2021 3:01 pm

A simple yet sometime astonishing mod that adds a dynamic music system to Doom.

Features:
    * Customizable fade-in and fade-out between tracks
    * Tracks are grouped - each group contains an ambient track, a combat track and a death track. Some music packs often duplicate death track
    * Easy to understand lump format that groups music tracks together
    * Load any kind of music pack others or you make, and even mix them
    * Shortcuts for changing currently playing track group.

For music pack makers:

Tried it with the Deux Ex pack, works amazing!

Only caveat is that there is a short freeze that happen once when the music first changes from peace>combat per each level, but after that its completely seamless for the rest of the map.

Thank you for making this!

This is an excellent addition, I tested it with this loadout:

name=DooM EXP
portname=GZDoom latest build (actually 4.5.0)
iwad=doom2.wad
pwads=..\WADS\TC\LithiumHeat\1COMPEND.wad,
doors-stay-open.pk3,
offi_xp_v2.4.2.pk3,
livereverb.pk3,
..\WADS\music\Dynamic OST\DMus_SSTFE.zip,
..\WADS\music\Dynamic OST\DoomDynMus-master.zip

Thank You CyberCool!

So you load a music pack, then load this mod. That's how to use it?

Yes, and it is super easy to make your own.

Using SLADE, I exported two sets of music lumps from MusicDarkAmbient.pk3 and STRAIN.WAD, Used bulkrenameutility.exe to rename them from D_<lumpname>.mus / .ogg to STRAIN_<lumpname>.mus / Dark_Ambient_<lumpname>.ogg, then wrote a DMUSDESC to tie them together. Zipped up the DMUSDESC and \music\ folder with the renamed .mus and .ogg files into DMus_STRAIN.zip and now I'm playing through STRAIN with dynamic music, livereverb.pk3 and LitDoom early alpha.

Well trying to play through. LitDoom is super hard survival mod, but I love it so far. It's easier to learn to play than Hideous Destructor, that's for sure.

Will try to make a DynMus pack for Invasion mode using instrumental tracks by Utsu-P.

My load order for LitSTRAIN:

name=LitDoom
portname=GZDoom 4.6.0
iwad=doom2.wad
pwads=
..\WADS\megawads\STRAIN.WAD
doors-stay-open.pk3
nashgore.pk3
livereverb.pk3
..\WADS\TC\LiTDOOM\LiTDOOM 0.51 Beta.pk3
..\WADS\music\Dynamic OST\DMus_STRAIN.zip
..\WADS\music\Dynamic OST\DoomDynMus-master.zip

Took this for a spin and I'll be honest - I love this one. I'm having a bit too much fun making musicpacks. Reminds me of the NOMBAT mod for GMod that's basically the same thing in concept.

MP3s work well with it too although the resulting large filesize is a bit of a bother.

Just a note for users: If you play mods that has abrupt in-game music cut-off mechanics (like Insanity's Brutality FATALITY! executions), they would momentarily stop your musicpack from playing. Just hit the random set play button to change back to it.

Awesome...would you consider making a doom eternal version. ?
With the awesome original tracks ...or d2016?

I haven't really given the 2016 and Eternal soundtrack a listen yet besides The Only Thing They Fear Is You, but it's rather doable.

Not sure if I can post it and the other packs I made here though.
