ZDoom and Doom 3 BFG Edition

Post by Doomblade3890 »

I got Doom 3: BFG Edition for Christmas on STEAM during their holiday sales.
While the classic DOOM games are playable, the framerate and mouse-look are pretty choppy.
When I run the classic WADS with ZDOOM, I can play the games, but I can't earn any of the achievements.
Is there a way I could use ZDoom with the BFG edition so STEAM will recognize achievement completion?

Also if any MODS are reading this, I'm not a spambot. I have no idea why but for some reason the last time I tried to post this I got an e-mail saying the post was denied because someone thought I was a spambot.

I don't know how you think Steam achievements work, but they certainly don't work that way.
Any game on Steam that has achievements will be using an API that allows it to communicate with the Steam client. When the game determines that you have reached the criteria for an achievement, it tells the client through said API to "unlock" it. ZDoom has no such systems in place, as it is neither a Steam game nor does it even remotely know what the achievements are. That's all inside D3BFG.

Also, I'm willing to bet that your last account got deleted because you had no posts and thus was caught in the administration's mass deletion after the spambot system was changed.

Can't say much for mouse-look, it worked fine for me. As for the framerate, it's locked at 35. Doom natively doesn't know anything above 35 FPS. Source ports changed that.

This isn't quite accurate. Typically (I don't know any ports that change this but I'm not going to write it off), the game still only creates frames at 35Hz, but the rendering interpolates between frames to create a smoother framerate.
