Looking for a font...

Post by Nash »

Image

I'm looking for a clean, crisp and pixel-y font like in Deus Ex. Must contain lower cases and be double (or more) the resolution of Doom's font. Anyone know any suitable sources [preferably freeware/GPL] or make one for me? Thanks!

From the byte map font site (or the bmfbundle archive):
055.bmf -- 12 pixel tall
159.bmf -- 26
20th.bmf -- 16
24round.bmf -- 30
299.bmf -- 20
312b.bmf -- 15
370.bmf -- 13
aero.bmf -- 17
amh18.bmf -- 22
antic.bmf -- 16
computer.bmf -- 16
curry.bmf -- 17
factory.bmf -- 17
fixed.bmf -- 18
journey.bmf -- 27
lasr12cs.bmf -- 13
luc11b.bmf -- 15
moder_np.bmf -- 17
rcgn.bmf -- 14
stihle16.bmf -- 17
t14.bmf -- 14
ufobig.bmf -- 16
vc.bmf -- 16

None are perfect fit, but they should generally work. Don't hesitate to scroll through the fonts in bmfbundle.zip with SLADE 3 to see how they look.

On the (legally permissive) TTF side, I thought this was similar, but it completely fucks up without antialiasing which is not what you want. Font designers forget about that aspect for low resolutions. :(

EDIT: Gidole Regular is closer but still sucks under 10pt

AFAIK, Deus Ex uses Handel Gothic, so you may want to start from there. I imagine the pixel font part was handmade based on that font, however. Also, it's not free.

and Aero, but i don't think Nash was wanting the Comic Sans of the future. The little pixel font doesn't look anything like either. It's closer to Trebuchet MS than it is Handel/Aero

Can you re-upload this bundle? Both links I found for it here are dead.

Re-uploaded and the URL on anonfiles is the exact same as the previous (looks like they use the file's MD5 sum to generate the URL).

Cousine is nice at 7 too, maybe except for that fat I. I might use this for smalltext in OA3's ui myself
