all notebooks if you buy now with a intel hd 3000 or 4000 (maybe even 2500) can play gzdoom fine...
But i think it´s more pocible take that code from quake 1 than uT99

But yeah, don´t buy some laptop without at least intel hd 2000 to up (the rest of intel gpus really sucks
http://www.notebookcheck.net/Intel-HD-G ... 948.0.html
http://www.notebookcheck.net/Intel-HD-G ... 168.0.html

And what I compared it have the same performance than low and some med gpus, if you have $$$ go to a nvidia or amd ^^

Graf already did a full rendering rewrite; it's called GZDoom.

The Wikipedia wrote:Although the engine uses raycasting to display a 3D space, that space is projected from a two-dimensional floor plan. The line of sight is always parallel to the floor, walls must be perpendicular to the floors, and multi-level structures are not possible.
Also known as: While DooM is "2.5D" with modifications to make it LOOK (via Raycasting) like it's being rendered in 3D... Ever heard of [wiki=Y-shearing]Y-Shearing[/wiki]?

That's the DooM Engine showing that it's truly a 2D-wanna be-3D engine with limitations, if the developers decided to look back to the abandoned Polymost, then we'll get true 3D projection. But until then, as I'm sure both Randy/Randi and Graf Zahl are busy with real life stuff, they don't have time to do a full rendering rewrite.

Even 3D floors are no doubt modifications to the render to make a "3D Floor". Quote-Quote. Also, Unreal Software mode is considerably slower than Unreal Hardware mode, and you lose alot of quality by doing that. Even though you might be running on old hardware, not everyone else is. Take that into consideration.

I realized that way too late, sadly. Oh well. :P

Only laptops with outdated graphics hardware. It works perfectly fine on my laptop which has a Geforce 9600 graphics chipset - and that thing is already more than 4 years old.

It's the "shaders" that GZDoom uses that can choke laptops. I know my HP Compaq 6730s detests GZDoom unless the shaders are disabled.

I have a hard time believing that a 2012 model notebook computer could be good enough to run ZDoom but not GZDoom. I also have a hard time believing that you couldn't get some crappy desktop PC (even if it's used) for much more money.

GZDoom runs fairly well on bottom of the barrel 2005-era technology. Improving the software renderer for computers that can't handle the OpenGL renderer is solving a problem that doesn't exist.

I was comparing vanilla doom, and never did like calling it 2.5D. But I agree, If compared to ZDoom it would certainly turn my last post upside down.

ZDoom is actually a full-fledged 3D engine at this point, except for the renderer which is still locked to the horizontal. There are plenty of 2.5D concepts inherited from Doom, but actors have finite heights and you can have room-over-room.

There difference is ones a 3D engine and one is a 2D Engine, GUESS WHICH IS WHICH

I understand that even the lowest priced laptop has working drivers too and even me should be able to solved this by my own. There is just something I wonder about the different software render between ZDoom and UT99, but I guess that it's just the design of the software/files. I would be actually surprised if UT99's code is similar to ZDoom, but that would be quite a feat.

Oh yeah the 'wild' debt strategy works really fine...
Graf Zahl wrote:You can't run the software!
You can if we're still talking about laptops, because the CPUs are not really that bad. (who cares about the HD videos or the MONSTER games... you have still doom or low resolution videos...)

... then happens what's inevitable: You can't run the software!

It's the same with smartphones: If you buy a cheap model you may not have the best experience finding apps for them as most software that's being developed is geared to higher specs.
