The Hydra demo is finally here! Make sure to press F1 for help (recommended). This total conversion mod is a successor to Meridian but with a more simple approach. It's gameplay is your standard doom mixed with Marathon elements. In the future there will be three acts, consisting of five levels each and more content.
Impressive and large TC there! I recently have beaten Episode 1 and i really love the late 90s hyper-fps aesthetic feel it has, hence the well fitting soundtrack being played. Also thanks for putting SSG Alt-Fire on Shotgun because it's now super convenient!
Spoiler: And now here's my feedback!
- Every hitscan is fired below the crosshair. I thought my aim was kinda not doing well first but this is quite weird.
- Computer Map has missing sprites so it shows some vanilla bits.
- Medikits and Stimpacks have cyan bits around them for some reason.
- I love the readable computers in each map and the world-building stuff. However, i see some kind of grey bits above the screen. Not sure why it's there.
- I felt weird that i can use Pipebomb IF i pick up the weapon variant. Not the ammo one. Both ammo and weapon sprites look all the same without the detonator even. Also i have to say that the weapon movement is rather slow too. Enemies avoid my bomb rather frequently.
- There are cracked walls that you can destroy with hitscan attack. Like the ones from first map for instance. But it looks graphically the same as Pipebomb ones and cannot be destroyed by it.
A1M3:
- There's this elevator that you only can press down button and i can keep press it and it goes down, down and down. If i enter it while going down, it softlocks the game. Also it has a texture error that button goes appear and disappear when moving.
- The exit teleporter of gas-filled area doesn't work anymore if you use it once. So you'll have to scour through there in first try.
A1M4:
- So i can jump around in zero gravity. That's really awesome! Well, except i barely can control every jump i make and it can be frustrating if you miscalculate and fall into the bottom slowly. The Adventures of Square comes to mind. It has some good zero gravity controls.
- I can leave the exit elevator. It still clears the map but i found it quite hilarious!
I certainly had a blast playing the first episode. I wonder if it has secret level as well? Or did i just miss it? Anyways, very promising TC. Looking forward to the next update!
