Under the same conditions then hardware will have the same strain placed on it, it doesn't matter if one is a Core 2 Extreme and GeForce 7950 and the other is a Athlon XP and a Radeon 9200, both are going to have the same load put on them. How much that strain affects the individual system is another matter, the Athlon XP is going to choke and die under pressure that wouldn't much bother the Core 2, but the idea that they receive a different amount of load is almost (not quite) as [censored word] as your typing skills.

For the record I did believe that at some point while reviewing I thought my poor Pentium M was just going to kick the bucket. This because I could hear a jet engine revving inside my laptop. And I use capped frames.
If capped frames is slower than vsync or a certain set of settings is required then a certain source port programmer needs to figure out what the fuck hes doing. Or maybe you just read what you wanted to.
Thats funny, because it certain;y worked fine on my Intel Centrino with it's lame 64 mb Intel Extreme-Graphics 2 with its limited 64 megs.

I think your little newb-ish insults has gone far enough. First it was about my mod not working well on your PC, which somehow equates to it sucking. How you're flaming Graf for not making his port so it would work best for YOU. Why dont you just take your bitching to the Newstuff chronicles and stay because this isn't where your reviews belong.

1) The Centrino is not and never has been an Intel processor. Your "Centrino" Processor could for all I know be a Core Duo or Core 2 Duo, as those fall under the context of Centrino. Please know what you're speaking of before posting.

2) Of course the thing works, how else could I write the newstuff review. Common sense children is your friend.

3) I didn't say it sucked because it raped my CPU. DOSBox for instance rapes my CPU when running most DOS games. I do not know know how I would go about without having DOSBox, and it certainly does not suck. You are assuming.

4) No, when a port, GZDoom or fucking anything, places illogical requirements and priorities it is indeed broken. Not for me specifically, but it is still broken. Having a system where capped frames do not control performance as much as vertical sync is broken.

5) You people are giving me so much good material for when newstuff is posted. See you there ;)

6) I am still lolling

Intel Centrino not Intel Processor? LOL! Wow, someone should never have played doom in the first place. Good luck reviewing, because no one is gonna give a shit about what you have to say after that. XD

It's not: It's an Intel marketing ploy.

Geez, would everyone (By that I mostly mean you, Hobbs. :?) stop flaming and flamebaiting? I just come here to look at the progress Eriance is making on his mod and have to dig through all of this crap just to look at a few pictures.

Either way, this mod is quite excellent, and runs fine, Eriance. Although I do agree that there are a few areas that are kinda blocky, but I really have no idea how someone can go ahead and say it was THAT bad. But, it's not going to stop anyone anyway.

(By the way, has anyone else noticed how scathing the reviews are on the larger, one-person projects like Sapphire and such?)

Experience shows that this is a futile attempt.

The problem is that these projects happened to be reviewed by people who prefer 'classic' gameplay and are incapable of writing decent reviews of stuff they don't like.
Look at this week's /newstuff: AMaster's reviews are really good - they are all describing the WADs in an objective fashion and you can get some decent information out of them.
But then the exception: Hobbs's review of Demon Eclipse. The only information I get out of this review is 'Hobbs didn't like the WAD', nothing more. Worse, he's used the magic word indicative of useless reviews: 'Crap'. Reviews that are that subjective are perfectly worthless to the general public. And yes, I would compare it with Deathz0r's Sapphire review. Both suffer from the exact same problem: A reviewer who exhibited an extreme bias against the WAD and was unable to overcome that in his writing.

Sapphire was just a boring map with a poorly designed layout that used GZDoom to look pretty. The word crap fits it rather well.

OTOH, DE might be the first reason for me to keep GZDoom on my HD for longer than playing the occasional GZDoom wads that pop up now and then.

It still needs some bugfixing, like the huge door polyobjects that can be walked into, the stuck rev on the way to the YK on map10, the HOM on the back side of the wall that blocks the way back from the switch which unlocks the blue key on map11. Some hudmessages have gross typos in them :P

As far as gameplay goes the fight at the end of map10 needs more ammo, and map07 should be scrapped. A boring and tedious opener followed by some really nice mapping seems out of place.

Many people disagree.
And BTW, the only GZDoom effects it used was a few reflective floors, the skybox and one 3D-bridge. So with the exception of that bridge it would have worked well with software rendering. Nothing compared to Enjay's Thief map which was released in the same week.

@Belial: I like Sapphire just fine Until the double reflecting floor/ceiling made it pretty much unplayable to me. I also thought the end with the Spider Demolisher was a bit too easy though and that it was a bit strange that I could kill but hitting some switches. But Hey, it was the first version and i'm sure once Tormentor fixes that it should be fine.

(Just out of curiosity, What is the command to reduce the number of reflected images for GZdoom again? Or is that only for reflecting walls.)

I will fix those if I haven't already. I never thought I hear that you would need MORE ammo. :D

@Graf: I think some people just like being assholes. Needs to get a freaking life. Sure miss those "honest critique" days from Doomworld's past.
