I updated my laptop to Win10 about 2 months ago, just to see how I would fare with it.
Since I did not have any problems, I also updated my desktop computer 2 days ago, to beat the deadline.
The only snag I encountered during the update process was that I had to uninstall NERO, which was not
a great loss. Win10 is starting to grow on me, especially the fast booting and closing of Windows.

The first stumbling block I encountered was that I couldn't upgrade without uninstalling Symantec
& HP ProtectTools. It's a heck of a shitty task to uninstall these.
I wouldn't blame Microsoft too much on that account.
Symantec, whenever I encountered it, behaved more like a virus itself. I would suggest
to run
regedit to delete every entry of Symantec. Of course after saving the registry first.
I've been using Kaspersky Internet Security for years. So far it has not let me down.
Just saying.

Both 7 and 10 are better than 8. Take your pick, really.

8.1 is not worse than 7, once you install a start menu and do some minor tweaks. 8.0 sucked, though.

I don't regret the update. The preview build was terrible because the performance was garbage but the final product turned out surprisingly good.

I second that notion. All things considered, 8.1 with StartIsBack is more or less 7 with that thing they call Metro. Although again, I'd prefer to downgrade to 7, given the option. But since I don't have the Pro version, I don't have that option.

8.1 is by far my favorite, but instead of using StartIsBack I use ClassicShell. I have shared my computer with people who love 7, and they actually like the setup that I use for 8.1.
Metro is easy to get used to if you're not forced to use it. And ClassicShell makes that a whole lot easier.
That being said though, I am probably upgrading to 10 anyway - though I'll probably be kicking and screaming the whole way through.

I actually haven't activated that Metro crap in several months. Who needs that shit?

metro on w8.1 was particularly lovely for me because I have a graphics tablet attached to my computer, which made Windows think I was using a computer with a touchscreen (the tablet isn't a touchscreen) so every time I went into the start screen by accident, I would get some stupid tutorial prompts that despite doing what they say, would never clear.
It was pretty amazing

Nobody really NEEDS it.
But like I said, it is nice when it's not forced on you. I do run several metro apps on occasion.

My laptop doesn't seem to work anymore after the update. The Start button doesn't do anything, and I have to CTRL+ALT+DEL just to shut the computer down. :/
The internet is also ridiculously slow for some reason.

Just found this tool that more or less solves the forced upgrade problem.
https://www.grc.com/never10.htm
And may I say, it's done me a world of favours!

Unfortunately, that tool is utterly useless now.
GWX will be disabled less than an hour after this post, so anyone seeing this post in the future will already notice their "Upgrade to Windows 10 now!" notifications disappear.
Windows 10 will no longer be offered as a free upgrade by Microsoft. You will very soon have to pay for a license to get it.

Well that's not a problem, because I don't want it! Additionally, the tool also deleted a cache of Win10 files that were surreptitiously stored on my hard drive. Almost as if they were hoping...

Except of course there's STILL a way to get a free upgrade.
