I was trying to watch a game trailer on a stream site and actually my computer got locked up claiming I had child porn on it, so that's probably the same as what you had, it told me I had to send money to some paypal account to unlock the computer, I restarted and still couldn't get back in, the only way was to run malwarebytes in safemode or CCleaner to stop the thing from running on start up. but it totally locked up my computer.

A long time ago my dad's computer got infected by a rogue fake anti-virus program by the name of "Live Security Platinum." It was a pretty nasty one, it stopped him from being able to do anything. Couldn't open anything, it claimed everything was a virus, and of course it was asking for money to remove all the "viruses." Luckily it was fairly easy to defeat. We installed MalwareBytes through its chameleon installer (which can hide if from a virus trying to stop it) and then ran a scan. Found the malware, destroyed it.

Child porn is a definite LIE.

Well pedophiles are well known to have below IQ compared to other people, so that 'scam-ware' virus is not such a bad thing IF it's targeted at people who actually go out looking for that stuff, rather then on trailers for video games.

that's a rather large assumption, that it gets a significant portion of them; the most important thing to note, is the fact that it's ransomware in the first place... if it did target them, it would probably be doing, you know, more constructive things than extorting money to unlock a computer.

A browser-hijacker that kept displaying ads for a candy-crush-fake with colorful fish. It also worked on Steam.
