It would need to have a lot of the copyrighted assets changed to avoid legal issues, and would likely lose a lot of the soul in the process.

Ug, you are right about the copyright. But, why you think about losing the soul? I think. it would be a great game, there isnt too many arcade shooters like this, and mixing the old school weapons with the concept was a cool idea for an "old school shooter with a modern touch"

i think this game, i mean this mod is for free, just like the other mods does. although it's not a standalone, at least you can pack it together with freedoom.

Reelism doesn't need to be standalone.
Usually standalone repacks i've seen are for personal glory and credit (i.e. download brutal reelism portable by minecraftrobloxian97!!!!), and would just add an unneccessary divide to hte userbase. and also would suck the soul out of it as well and violate the usage rights for using derivative Doom graphics
(p.s. reelism caused a couple of my friends to buy doom2 on steam a few years back)

I think playing Reelism with Freedoom is a sufficient solution, really. Some graphics might not look up to spec but it'd be functional.

or play it with recent version of freedoom while waiting for rey's donation for freedoom is done, i hope it can be finished.

I wasnt saying about changing everything about the mod to make it standalone, just saying that would be cool that reelism doesnt need doom2.wad to run. Just like a repack (I think so) but official or something like that. I don't know, i'm just a crazy dreamer

Making Reelism standalone would require actual work (which I am allergic to), would subtly increase the odds of a multinational media conglomerate smiting me, and would take away a decent chunk of the charm.

Boss Rush is hard. This is the furthest I've gotten so far. I honestly thought I could get all the way, but then Player 2 nailed me with a rocket from across the arena.
I also can’t remember adding half these bloody things to the game.
