[wssd] What should Spidey do?
Re: [wssd] What should Spidey do?
I like your projects concept, Spidey.
Anything that can speed up workflow and make project management for Doom mods is always a welcome thing in my book.

That's an interesting way to go about things. My approach is to do things WinTex style. That is double click, external program opens temp file, SDE auto imports. I will optionally have internal editors available. SDE has a strong focus on modules (I suppose you can call this do one thing and do it well) and right now it can be compiled with only the standard c(++) library (so far the optional libraries are Qt (GUI) and zlib (PK3 support)).bagheadspidey wrote:My tool is going to be a little different from a normal wad editor, I think... It will manage "projects" that consist of a project file storing some options and a bunch of lump files in folders, organized like a pk3. It will compile projects into wads or pk3s when the author is ready to distribute or test. That way, you can edit images and stuff directly without doing the export -> edit -> import thing, and wads will never get corrupted or screwed up.

Write me a tool that makes awesome maps please.

Well now, that just sounds awesome. I eagerly await its releasebagheadspidey wrote:My tool is going to be a little different from a normal wad editor, I think... Of course, it will be able to convert a wad or pk3 into a project for editing. It will also be able to browse a wad or pk3 in read-only mode (gotta convert to a project if you want to edit it.)

Re: [wssd] What should Spidey do?
bagheadspidey: Mine uses "projects" too, but I call them "workspaces". It will be able to convert almost anything into anything, thanks to the clever (I hope) design I made. And by anything I mean anything it supports (not just Doom stuff
). It will also be easily extendable, both with C++ plugins and ECMAscript scripts (thanks to QtScript). Plus all the normal features you would expect.

Any chance, these will be done ? I'm just asking.Kappes Buur wrote:It's been a few months now.
Is there still any possibility for the The Terrain Editor and/or the Map Viewer to be released in the near future

There's always hope ;p
..but not any time soon. I've got all kinds of stuff going on for the next four or five months so I don't have much time to work on that stuff. The terrain editor is suffering from an annoying polygon selection bug and I can't decide on a good toolkit for the map viewer thing either (almost leaning towards firefox plugin though). I've started coding a doom map to svg thing, so it might go somewhere eventually.

How many more Red Dwarf references could this forum possibly make?
