(Ponies Warning) Rainbow Factory Alpha V5 (On Hold)

Post by Scootaloler »

Oh my god... My hands are shaking... MY HANDS ARE SHAKING.... AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
I'M FINALLY POSTING THIS MOD TO THE ZDOOM FORUMS! :D
Ok... Control....
Hello all.
I am Lorentio, that one guy who makes stupid questions in the Editing sub forums.
I'm proud to present to you guys my newest and first Doom-based work:
Rainbow Factory

"butt the orginal storeh is by Aurora Dawn u idiot stealah"
You're right buddy.
50% Right actually.
The game is based on the Fanfic and the song, HOWEVER, it won't tell the story of the original fanfic, it'll tell an alternate ending to the story.
Wanna know the story?
However you didn't read the original fanfic?
Go read it.
If you already readed it, Download it here:

Now some boring text
Spoiler:
Now as for the sexy screenshots
Spoiler:
Now Back to me.

FAQ:
Q: If the mod is based on ponies, why there no ponies on it?
A: Cause it's a "pilot" mod, if people like it, shtuff happens, if they don't, shtuff dies, so leave a message if you think this should continue.

Q: When will the full version be released?
A: It will take time, Oh boy it will.

Q; Why Rainbow Factory?
A: Why not?

Q: What's up with Doomguy's face but Scootaloo hooves? This is disgusting!
A: Yes my friend, Disgusting indeed, However as i said before, it's a pilot mod, so if it suceeds, there will be a Scootaface on it, Lodso of things will be added.

Q: Why are you posting this in Zdoom forums instead of MLP Forums?
A: The mod was originally tested on the MLP Forums to see if i had the will to post to the entire internet, people said it needed more work, However i still posted it cause i'm a really naughty person.

Now more boring text
The mighty, The one, The Amazing

Since I'm on mobile for now, I'm afraid I can't try this out just yet, but as a brony it has my tentative interest. I'm also already picturing how it'll play if I load one of the Equestrian character classes I made on top of it. Long story short, count me as a potential +1 on interest in this project.

I got home sooner than expected, and got a chance to try this out a little. It's a bit rough around the edges, which is to be expected for an alpha. Ran into a couple of minor map issues, such as not dying when falling through the clouds, and an unknown script trigger in MAP04 (which itself is clearly unfinished, so it's understandable), and I think the art for Scootaloo's hooves could use a little touch-up (they look kinda block-y in some places). Also, I know Scootaloo hasn't learned to fly, but have you considered maybe giving her slightly reduced gravity to attest to a hovering effect?

I tend to reserve my judgment until further into a project's lifespan, but I'm interested to see what this grows into.

Well it's my first "Game" ever actually, The Animations weren't made by me, and if you wish to change then, go ahead, you would help quite alot :D

The maps will be alot better in the final version, the script trigger was a wave, however when i tried to use a certain script my game crashed, i didn't save it and it went nuts.
By the way, i would thank if you could "give away" the planing wings code for Scoots.
Thank you for playing, Your review is added to my notebook, Bai.

Perhaps I could pitch in a little bit... I'll get back to you on that sometime. In the meantime, keep it up. I'm genuinely curious about the possibilities ahead.

EDIT: Here, give this a try.
Spoiler: Add this block to MAPINFO
Spoiler: Add this to DECORATE
Edit that playerclass as you go along, if you have more changes to add. But as it is now, it should give Scootaloo a slower fall, while keeping roughly the same jump height. Try it out in the last area of MAP03 to see its effects more easily. Feel free to tweak the numbers if you want. It may also be worth looking into adjusting the map's AirControl (or on the player itself, if the suggestion I made is ever added to ZDoom), but you could probably get away with leaving that alone, too.

So alpha that it went from the hard drive to the forum in no more than 5 minutes.

That's what the 5 actually stands for.

Lol, That's a great way to interpetate the 5!
However it's five because later versions were posted in other forums for testing. I'm only going to post version five in this forums, since this wad was forgotten by others.
Funny thing is that i took almost hours to upload this file (Thank you Brazilian Internet!)

*awesome Scootaloo mugshots*

I like! Do you do this on a regular basis (as in, make mugshots for other Equestrians)? Because, if so, I would be very much obliged to be able to borrow some of your work, myself.

The maps are of extremely low quality to the point of absurdity, the music is unforgivably annoying, and the "new" graphics really clash with the stock Doom stuff. For a project like this, I'd strongly suggest a more stylized approach that doesn't involve any original Doom textures in a meaningful way and a smaller scope than trying to tell a story. Just try making one or two playable maps first.

All in all I'd say you should not have released this in its present state.

Hmmm, Half True, Half False.

The maps are indeed bad, but not that "absurd", The music is based on ponies, All the songs will be pony based, if you didn't like the original songs, i'd suggest you muting in future versions.
Yes, the new graphics doensn't fit the game itself, but i beg of you Read the mod's FAQ These won't be the official textures, so chill.
The maps ARE playable, but they are too hard, it will be balanced in future updates but for now, try playing in easier difficulties, such as Sugar and Spice.

Yes, i shouldn't be releasing in it's present state, i totally agree with you, but as i said, it's a pilot mod, it's just supposed to show the Idea and half of the Gameplay, If i had to make a mod complete as possible for this kind of situation, i'd already make the textures, custom monsters and balanced the maps.

Thanks for your review.

I take it this is the part where you disprove my opinion of your mod.

Actually yes, IMO, it's in fact quite absurd how low quality they are. I can't even honestly offer any constructive criticism; all the maps lack any kind of structures or architecture or defining features. They're just sectors in mostly 90-degree shapes joined together at one or two sides with no clearly defined texture themes or architectural motifs. The maps are literally so bad that I can't honestly give you any reasonable opinions on how to improve them.
The music is based on ponies, All the songs will be pony based, if you didn't like the original songs, i'd suggest you muting in future versions.
Ponies piss me off in general and I think mods based on them are a shit-stain on the community, but my opinion that the music is quite poor quality is irrelevant of that. What I'm saying is, your WAD is nearly 50MB because it's full of high-fidelity MP3s of really, really, really shitty music that nobody likes. Consider either recompressing the music or, probably a better choice, consider using different music altogether.
The maps ARE playable, but they are too hard, it will be balanced in future updates but for now, try playing in easier difficulties, such as Sugar and Spice.
They're unplayable because they're so boring. The maps themselves are so incredibly unmemorable and devoid of gameplay that I couldn't tolerate playing past halfway of MAP02. It's not about the difficulty. Put a bit more thought into your encounters (which there are none of in these maps) and look at successful maps like those by Malcolm Sailor for example. Those will give you a great feel for how to set up interesting monster encounters.

That doesn't really excuse the total lack of gameplay and the nerve-grating music nor anything else I stated so far. My suggestion still stands: try making one playable map before working on a bunch of them with new graphics and new music and a storyline. It's clear you are not ready for that.
Thanks for your review.
Thanks for trying to disprove my opinions as false. :)
