May I have a question? Exactly what the first texture supposed to be? I saw it in Spear of Destiny several times, always at hidden, and underground caves deeper than the deepest well. So this always bugged me. Is it some kind of basalt or what?

I've made this set for a project, based on Mission Pack textures, i've also made some Paletted versions, but i want to re-do them before posting here, most if not all of these wont go too well if you just palettize them, also i wanna re-do some of these as well.
Spoiler:
Posting these here because i thought it was related enough, these are not 100% accurate to the original Mission Pack textures, if these should be removed from the thread go ahead and tell me.

Some kind of cave wall, rock. Maybe, who knows.

i've already expected about the first texture was a rock, but what about the second one? is that a same one as first one but colored brown with mud or tree roots?

The second one is more than likely to be an earth wall, relatively close to the surface. It never looked like rock to me, seeing that plant roots are growing all around. Maybe those are tree roots so I assume that texture is useful for tunnels which are relatively close to the ground, whilst the first texture, that diagonal rock-thingy is much deeper below the soil.

The first chapter of SoD is called Tunnels, so it makes sense. Too bad these texture were barely used.

Since i made more and remade the ones i wanted to remake, here's a larger sheet with both original unpaletted and paletted versions, i made sure these were paletted with slade 3.

Top rows are unpaletted and bottom rows are paletted:

Hope it's useful to people.

Well you're in luck, because I found a way! After much searching, I found out that WDC supports .5551 files, so I opened them up there. And... well, you might say it varies. Some of them are okay, but others are obviously just upscaled from their 64x64 counterparts. And the compression makes it even worse! (I don't know if it's the viewer or if they were just released that way.) For some reason, the odd-numbered files are just the unaltered darkened 64x64 walls. I left those out for this dossier I've assembled.

Wall Textures.

I've also taken the liberty of putting together a comparison of our versions of the walls and theirs. Since the SoD walls are not present, they're not included.
Spoiler:
That's really interesting. Thanks a lot. Is there anything worth within the sprites?

I've had a quick look: it's a combination of Mac and PC sprites too, but nothing new, I'm afraid - unless you count the modified medkit.

Its a matter of time and effort. Most of the ports of Wolf3D were rushed. Don't forget, the Atari Jaguar port was thrown together over a weekend by id to test the systems hardware. This was the first one to use the 128x128 resources. After this the engine was pretty much dated, so nobody really put any genuine effort in the ports to follow they were mostly just done for the sake of having the game on those systems since the original Wolf3D was a big cash cow.
