[DISCUSSION] The Community Beastiary (on hold!)

Projects that have specifically been abandoned or considered "dead" get moved here, so people will quit bumping them. If your project has wound up here and it should not be, contact a moderator to have it moved back to the land of the living.

Since this is the monster "beastiary" I am curious if friendly monsters count, too? :P

I also got a few i'm working up now to submit. =D

are there any set standards on what is supposed to be submitted and what isn't?

Currently, it looks like it's a "you place a monster that works in doom and it'll be hosted" x_x

Nicestuff here. I say this is a much more conventient way to download custom monsters than a ginormus resource wad. Good work there. :)

Maybe so, but this is already much easier to look through!

This doesn't seemed to have been mentioned so, in addition to enumerating all the monsters, there should also be a zip/pk3 that has all the wads collected together for one download. It would be much more convenient than going through and downloading each one separately.

I found a mistake somewhere in there: the mauler demon has the name Hell Warrior in his stats table.

I like it! Perhaps someday I'll submit something, if I ever get things done...

A suggestion on the Arachnophyte, though... In Xaser's Zen Dynamics, the monster is featured, but it's a black brain instead of the normal Spider-Mastermind colors. I liked it as it differentiated the monster a little bit more from being just a normal flying spiderdemon. (Hah, and it looked a little bit cooler :>) Come to think of it, the Cacophyte and the Maelstrom were nice, too... (although I know a lot of people hated the Maelstrom, and I can understand!)

What are your thoughts?

PS: Doomshadow, good luck with the descriptions! About a year ago, I wrote little descriptions like these for a lot of the monsters in the MRW, and they were a lot of fun! I look forward to reading your creations.

My two bits worth:

A terrific idea, Torm.

Yes, I think that you should feel free to use enemies from other engine's games. Many of the Blood enemies, for example, would fit perfectly in a Doom context.

Please consider changing the name of the section to "Bestiary". (Note only one "a".) This is the spelling Nazi in me coming out, so don't feel as though you have to heed me, but a bestiary is a book of stories about real and imagined beasts. "Beastiary", on the other hand, ain't a word.

EDIT: Minor spelling fix.

I agree with having the Arachnophyte from Zen Dynamics.

I enjoyed the Maelstrom especially when it's your friend. For the cacophyte, I guess it's good to put it in.

This is a damn good idea! Should be fun to read through em.

Could you put my ghouls on there? You can info for em at my page http://gothic.34sp.com/

Edit: Oh wait, I just realised you want a seperate download link for each one? Ah nevermind then, I thought it was going to just be a gallery of monsters with funky info :P

@Bouncy - Well, simply depends on the quality. I am going to put up monsters that - for me - fit into this collection and that are of a certain quality. As a hint: The blue Cacodemon (Nightmare) from the MRW was not.

@Eriance - Thx, especially for letting me put up all of your monsters. :)

@Risen - Glad to hear... that was really a pain ;) But good that it helps!

@Zippy - I am not sure but maybe I will put all of them together in one PK3, but not now as not all of the monsters are online that I want to see there :)

@ZDUser - Thx for pointing out, will fix that!

@Aqua - I will consider the Arachnophyte change ;) Is the Cacophyte also from Zen Dynamics?

@Cyberdemon2006 - Unfortunately not as these monsters are not finished.

@David - There is a reason for that ;) http://haunt.8m.com/beastiary/

@Cutty - Exactly ;) And I am not sure if they'd even fit in.

Yeah cause they suck. Just one rotation and barely any animation! :P

I might have a few things to upload at home which are better quality.

Edit: Actually would it be possible to add some sort of filter? That way you could accept sprites only or non-downloadable ones, or just filter undead monsters etc

Yes. The Cacophyte is from Zen Dynamics. It is that mini orange looking monster.

@Torm - If you're going to add the Cacophyte to your "beastiary", at least put a "use at your own risk" warning, or something like that. Need I describre how annoying that thing is?
