Strife: Pollutants (Strife PWAD for UZDoom)

Post by Thelokk »

Strife: Pollutants is a PWAD for either the OG or the Veteran version of Strife: Quest for the Sigil. it includes:

- six entirely new maps and a refurbished one, with movement between maps and backtracking supported;
- One new enemy;
- New items;
- interactable NPCs;
- A tracker OST;
- new textures, including some from scratch.

Please read the CREDITS lump for full credits and additional info. A couple pointers:

- Jumping is required, and Z-axis rocket jumps are mandatory for some secrets, and to clear the secret maps.
- The set was tested only with the latest UZDoom - it might or might not work just fine in GZDoom, no guarantees tho.

Played it. Loved it. Whizzed through too quick and got the bad ending, missing any secret levels.

Cons: too many distant hitscanners in large open areas. There are also times you need to platform, but if your health is under 15 after a combat encounter, your movement speed drops massively which makes running jumps impossible

Pros: Everything else

Glad to see a much-ignored classic get some good quality levels

Edit: You should post this on Doomworld as well, as people on there have recently spoken about being starved for Strife content

Edit 2: Just noticed a bug - tried warping to Map01, and there is no player start (using UZDoom and veteran edition) - though this could just be a quirk of Strife's hub system

Glad you liked it! And yeah, due to the hub system the existing player starts are nothing more than landings pads - I guess I could put independent starts for each map, but the set isn't really meant to be warped around.

Hell yeah, module soundtrack? You don't see that every day! Or hear that, rather.

Giving it a go this weekend and reporting back!

Hope you enjoy!

In the meantime, as I need to move on from this thing and I'm unlikely to return to it in any form, I shipped it off to the /idgames mines. ModDB is still the preferred download, as I can actually keep track of downloads (almost 100 on this mod alone... (EDIT: 100+now) I legit thought I was the only one or close to it who still remember this game lol) and, if it ever really gets to it, update the file in real time. But I know some folks still prefer /idgames so here it is:

There *technically* are, in the sense that the way map slots in Strife are laid out, you will get either the stock 'normal' or 'good' ending depending whether you found all of the secret maps. I didn't specifically design around them - tbh, they don't make much sense even in the IWAD itself in my opinion.
