Unable to host, stuck on "Exchanging game information"

Hello,
I was trying to host a game via ZDL on vanilla Doom 2, and nobody could connect even though my port was forwarded and I was hosting. I had the same issue every time where the slots would fill up, but we would all get stuck on the same error message of "Exchanging Game Information"
Any idea what the problem might be? I'm on the latest GZDoom and using your standard Doom 2 wad.
