Gameplay Changes
He is fast, faster than any other! He is durable, reinforced by magic and darkness! He wields no weapon, but His mastery of magic is unmatched! All his ilk are wellsprings of Mana, never running dry! His consumption of human souls fuels His unnatural life!
The dark arts He wields have been honed to a set of masterful techniques!
Main Fire: Focus - Spells with great Mana cost but great power. Long casting times and locks onto a single target. Fails if there is no target without expending Mana.
Alt Fire: Projectile - Fires a projectile spell with lower cost and greater casting speed.
Reload: Shield - Defensive spells.
Zoom: Utlity - Other spells.
His power is unmatched, His knowledge is all encompassing! There is nearly nothing for Him to learn! His Mastery can only grow!
Spoiler: The Spells
Slot 1 - Telekinesis - The power of His mind is so great, He may exude great force!
Focus - Deals minor damage to a single target. Very low mana cost.
Projectile - Deals minor damage and pushes target back. Costs zero mana.
Shield - N/A
Utility - N/A
Slot 2 - Fire - The power of all Archviles, honed to a razor's edge!
Focus - Deals constant fire damage to the focus target before causing a large explosion.
Projectile - Launches an explosive fireball.
Shield - Summons 3 orbiting fireballs.
Utility - Heals you while held.
Slot 3 - Ice - His will chills to the very bone!
Focus - Slows enemies in an area around the focus target before encasing the area in ice dealing Ice damage and freezing victims.
Projectile - Launches a ground based ice wave, freezing the enemy it hits.
Shield - Conjures a wall of ice to block projectiles.
Utility - Encases you in Ice Armor.
Slot 4 - Bolt - His presence manifest!
Focus - Strikes the focus target with lightning, dealing massive set Electric damage.
Projectile - Shoots a lightning bolt that penetrates enemies.
Shield - Unleashes a short ranged lightning burst centered on you.
Utility - Increases your speed by such a great factor that time seems to stop.
Slot 5 - Darkness - His gaze strikes fear!
Focus - Darkness falls on an area around the focus target, causing paralyzing those effected with fear before the fear physically manifests, causing moderate Unholy damage.
Projectile - Rapidly fires orbs of Unholy darkness while held, dealing damage and causing fear.
Shield - Steps into the Shadow Plane, becoming largely incorporeal for a duration.
Utility - Conjures clones made of shadow and darkness to distract targets. The clones are quasi-real and can attack as normal Archviles do.
Slot 6 - Arcane - He has mastered magic to its very essence!
Focus - Evokes 5 orbs of pure arcane power, before launching them where you are looking, dealing large Magic damage and exploding. Does not require a focus target.
Projectile - Fires a Magic missile.
Shield - Fortifies your body with a magic barrier, reducing damage taken while the duration lasts.
Utility - Siphons your life force into Mana.
Slot 7 - Soul - Death is no refuge from Him!
Focus - Saps at the souls of all targets in range, dealing true damage and healing you.
Projectile - Steals away the victim's very soul, instantly killing it. Melee range.
Shield - Projects a clone from your dark soul. The soul clone is as powerful as you are but cannot leave your side.
Utility - Revives a dead enemy as an ally.
But yet there is more power He can possess! Agents from On High walk with us, carrying their Good Books! While slain, the Books cannot be handled by any but the absolute darkest!
Even He must beware! The holy power within is great, but is harmful to His dark form!
Slot 8 - Holy - The Power of Above, harnessed Below! - Replaces BFG9000
Focus - Gathers Holy power around the Focus target before it is unleashed, dealing heavy Holy damage in the area.
Projectile - Conjures a vision of The Savior, dealing Holy damage to all in sight while held.
Shield - Emulates the miracle of Lazarus, reviving you from death. Only one Miracle can be in effect at a time.
Utility - Blesses an area around you, harming other demons, healing you and blocking some attacks in the radius. Has a limited duration.
The treasures of Hell and Earth are His to possess, with power beyond humans' feeble understanding!
Spoiler: Items and Powerups
Elemental Gems - Replaces weapon spawns and Blurspheres
Elemental power encased in crystals of solid mana. Picking these up will increase the Mastery of the associated spell type, increases power and effectiveness of all spells of that type.
Souls and Large Souls - Replaces ammo drops
The unfettered souls of humans, freed from their mortal shell. Consume them for health and Mana. Particularly virtuous or sinful humans yield larger souls, restoring greater amounts of health and Mana.
Demon Hearts - Replaces armor
The still beating hearts of the pink cattle demons. Consume them to fortify your health above it maximum. The green hearts of Barons of Hell are even more effective.
Soulsphere - Replaces Supercharge
A specialized Soul Gem filled with distilled souls. Absorb its power to greatly restore your health, fortify your body and restore your Mana. The orb crumbles to dust afterwards...
Amulet of Souls - Replaces Megasphere
A powerful personal artifact. Created from a particularly powerful Soul Gem, it greatly restores your health, replenishes your Mana and is worn to expand your Maximum Mana.
Magic Cloak - Replaces Radsuit
Another personal item. Woven by a witch coven and enchanted by a confidant, wearing it eases the flow of Mana. Reduces spell costs by 25%.
Power Rune - Chance to replace Berserk
A Rune written by a powerful Imp Magus. Inscribe it upon your palms to draw Mana from the very matter in the air, effectively granting effortless spell casting. Its power fades after a time.
Apex Rune - Small chance to replace Berserk Currently does not function!
A Rune of unknown origin, theorized to have been written by a Demon Lord before ascension. Inscribed upon the chest, it can greatly amplify the flow of Mana, allowing the use of extremely powerful and costly spells. Imbues spells with a red energy of malleable elemental properties, but is often misattrubited to be lightning by lesser magi.
Soul Gem - Replaces Backpacks
Gems crafted from a precious material from Hell by Barons of Hell, they expand the powers of the possessor, increasing Magic Level. The exact effect varies from species to species. For Archviles, they increase the rate their Mana regenerates.
Soul Gem Fragments - Replaces Cell Packs
Soul Gems are largely indestructible, but powerful enough entities can shatter them for unknown purposes. They can be collected and combined, creating a new Soul Gem.
In Dev Preview
Here comes flame boi, its the latest (maybe not greatest) in the Hearts of Demons series! As usual, this is an alpha build, but its more complete than most of my other alpha ventures have been! While it does have some issues, and some missing content, its very much a complete experience, so go out and have fun with it! As always keep me posted with any questions, concerns, comments, hatemail, etc.

Balance is fucked, even for a Hearts of Demons mod
Mana costs are wack
Apex Spells need to be added
Casting animations can be made fancier with auras and stuff like that
Some kind of in game spell compendium or spell book or something to let the player know what spells are available to cast

NICE. One thing I can have feedback for immediately is that I think the various magic masteries could use some sort of cap on what level they can reach. Not that it's likely to happen a lot, but on EDay for instance, you make it to the armory in map 05 and there are a bunch of gems and the magics can get way strong when you have 15+ levels in some.
Maximum amount of corpses revived going up with Soul level would be cool, too.
And for Arcane's primary at least, it'd be nice if the spell circles could follow where you're looking instead of staying directly in front.

EDIT: Oh, I forgot something. Since you pretty much want the arcane shield on all the time and the mana orb gets an effect on it indicating that it's active, you don't really lose much by disabling the blue vision tint.
